Skeptical Drinking in Central Pennsylvania

If you live near enough to what some call "the middle of nowhere" (AKA: State College, PA; AKA: Centre County; AKA: Happy Valley) - some skeptical drinking will be occurring on Thursday, November 6th, in downtown State College. Not sure of the venue yet, so will repost later with that. We usually meet at Zeno's (corner of College and Allen, below the Corner Room Restaurant), but now that most of the bars are smoke free, we may mix it up a bit. I know it's a college town, and there may be a few college students attending, but this group is mostly non-students of many ages.

If you are interested, reply here so I can get an idea of who might attend.

I will be in the vicinity of The Middle of Nowhere Pennsylvania over Xmas if you are having one then. My boyfriend's family lives in Beaver Springs, PA; looks close enough for a ride.

Beaver Springs is about 50 miles from State College. Ain't never been in them parts - looks mighty rural, though.

I'll keep you in mind if we meet near Xmas. When you know actual dates, pm me to let me know.

Will do.
And by the way: mighty rural is about right. I love the family and all, but 50 miles about how far you have to go to find anything interesting.

yay Zeno's!!! Best beer selection in PA.

Man, I miss that place....

We'll drink one in your honor, Cleon. ;-)

Final decision on this event is that we are indeed meeting at Zeno's for this month. It's on the corner of College Ave and Allen St in the heart of downtown State College, below the Corner Room Restaurant. We'll be there by 8:00 pm and will have some skeptic books/magazines on our table.

The beer selection IS excellent - with 25 beers on tap ...

Let me know if you're coming, and I'll keep an eye out for you.

I'm kind of new around here.... :o but I'm just down the road in Altoona and very familiar with Zeno's and the usual State College hangouts (PSU class of '92). What does "skeptical drinking" involve? One thing I'm NOT skeptical of is the selection of beers at Zeno's!

I’m skeptical, but could zeno’s Pub be haunted?

I understand they have spirits of Sam Adams, Abbey Du-Val Dieu, and Captain Morgan contained in glass vessels...

I mean, is it true or not that patrons have seen wine glasses coming off the racks, that chairs had been moved, and heard sounds of toilets flushing?

I look forward to seeing everyone there, but don’t be disappointed if I drink water.

Wow! That's is one spectacular beer selection. I wish I lived right next door to that place.

In my experience so far, skeptical drinking is a tasty twist on skeptical thinking - so it's mostly about socializing, and knowing that you are in the company of like-minded folks. The conversations often center around matters of religion, politics, and the mixture of the two, as well as current media topics (movies, etc.), paranormal beliefs, and good ol' science. No set agenda - more just a night out.

I would describe it as just like going out with friends except that you can talk about interesting and thoughtful topics without killing the conversation.

I'll be in central PA from Xmas until New Years Day if anyone wants to meet at this pub with the great beer selection. Other than Xmas day & New Year's Eve, my schedule is wide open.

Skeptical Drinking in State College, PA to be held on Thursday, December 4th, at the Adams Apple (the bar in the Tavern Restaurant). Begins at 7 pm.

What horrible timing. I just got back to Va from Bellefonte yesterday. But will be back up there next week.

Whatcha doin' in Bellefonte? Hey - maybe we should have a skeptical drinking night at the Do-De?

I'm bummed

State College is too far from Capital city. I never was able to have enough fun in college so I'm so bummed I can't come and join you.

I see their are Skeptically drinking and/or Skepchic drinking in Philly, Pittsburgh and S.C. I'd love to set one up for Harrisburg. I just think there are no skeptics here. Sad.:( I'm so alone!

We do seem to be thin on the ground, don't we? I'm not actually in Harrisburg, but I've made the drive from Reading before, so if you want to set something up I just might have to make the trip.

If you get together in Harrisburg anytime from Dec 26-Jan 2; I'd love to come. It's only about an hour away from where we're staying.

Looks like there is some response on other fronts to a Superstition Bash/Darwin Day event on February 13. Keep it open!

awww...
Well, maybe after you get a regular thing going, we'll be visiting at the right time...
