Chiropractor that practices acupuncture. :(:boxedin::covereyes

It's true. I looked it up, after hearing it from Bob Parks.

And from WHAT’S NEW Robert L. Park Friday, 21 Nov 08 Washington, DC:

Our friends to the north are going through a transition similar to ours.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s Conservative Party won the election in
October and is naming a new cabinet. I hope it goes better for science
down here. Canada’s new Minister of Science and Technology, Gary
Goodyear is neither a scientist nor a technologist; he is a doctor of chiropractic. Worse, he is also an acupuncturist.

Argh!

At least it's not Stockwell Day.

Thank FSM he only has a parliamentary minority. Given the political state of affairs to the south, Harper's days are numbered, IMO. There will be an Obama bounce and an economic backlash all the way until our next election. Hopefully the Liberals will get their house in order in the meantime.

:( Might as well be Stockwell Day. Of course, Day is our Trade Minister. He used to be our Treasurer for Alberta, and he came to my door one day, and insulted me with his answers to my questions. There is no wonder that we have the lowest minimum wage in the country, and the most children (1 in 10) living below the poverty line. He was so arrogant, and felt that welfare bums were parasites, and needed a good tongue lashing rather then any kind of money spent on effective programs to prevent the poverty cycle. Awww, you mom has a mental illness? You're scum too, and don't deserve an education without going into debt with a huge student loan and starving while you're in school. This government has crazy ideas of who to have as experts in any given situation.

I'm a re-located Albertan and I remember Stock well (ha!). He and Ralph are two peas in a pod.

Good for you for getting out :D

People are whining that the current leader is not leading. I kind of prefer it to the kind of leadership we had under Ralph.

By "not leading" they must mean not consistently and regularly making the Premier's office into a public spectacle of ass-hatitude that leads to Alberta being the butt of every joke across the country. Seems like an improvement to me. ;)

Yeah, he's not a typical PC. *laughs* Okay, stop making me feel better. Errr, I mean don't stop.

I find this appointment abhorrent and horrifying.
Canada used to be a bastion of science, and now it seems, we should be a laughing stock.

I think I'm in shock. Not disbelief though. A lot of PC MPs are chiros. And Harper has never demonstrated that he knows what science is either.

The two are nothing alike- one's a drunk, the other's a fundamentalist who'd never touch the demon liquor.

And one's fat, the other's thin.

See? Two whole differences.

As a Canadian, facepalms, jaw drops and embarrassment is all I can muster right now.

Read this in the G&M this morning. I've been steaming mad all day. And just as the Americans are emerging from their mini dark age, we have to deal with this. It sure explains the evisceration of research funding in the latest budget. I'm not a fan of Iggy, but I think I just became a supporter of the Liberal Party. Anything is better than this.

Science minister ends evolution brouhaha

OTTAWA — Canada's science minister moved to cut short a brewing controversy Tuesday over his views on evolution.
Gary Goodyear raised eyebrows when he refused to tell a national newspaper if he believed in the science of evolution.
But the minister of state for science and technology clarified Tuesday that he does indeed believe in evolution.
"We're evolving all the time," Goodyear said in an interview.
"Of course I believe in evolution."
Goodyear said he initially refused to answer the Globe question because it was "irrelevant" since his beliefs have nothing to do with government policy.

Well. That's all over then. We can go back to seeing him fund research to find the amazing invisible subluxation. :scared:

This is an outrage.

I never understood why so many otherwise smart Canadians go to these chiropractor quacks anyway.
