MDC like lightning striking - John Edward

NOTE: The title mentions the MDC but is really about John Edward's foolishness, but if mods wish to move the thread, fair enough.

John Edward is in my city, Melbourne, right now fleecing gullible people out of their hard-earned and getting a bit of publicity. I would not normally read anything about the man, but a couple of things in an article in "the Age" caught my eye, one being his claim to have foreseen 9/11 and another a mention of the MDC.

His "reasoning" for not attempting the MDC was possibly the lamest and most ridiculous I could possibly imagine:

"I once said to some scientists, 'You understand how lightning works, right?' And they're like, 'Yeah'. So I said, 'I'm going to mark an X on the floor and you're going to make lightning strike that spot four times in a row. Can you do it?' And they're looking at me, like, 'No'."

So there we have it. The philosopher in Monty Python's Holy Grail who decided that a witch should weigh more than a duck made more sense.

John Edward's presence in this city has just momentarily, but significantly, dropped the average IQ here.
 
He is saying that he can't do it at will, then?

Only, he has no problems doing it at will at his shows.
 
I suggest his anecdote is as made up and crummy as his stage show act.
 
Sounds like an open admission that he gets the odd "hit" by chance. Hes perceptive, if nothing else.
 
It's odd that he will diss scientists, when he is so fond of pointing to his work with Schwartz.

Of course, he found out that he could bamboozle Schwartz.
 
That's because Schwartz is not a scientist's flabby white arse.

Can I erect an antenna and run some wires and have time to wait for big storms? Pretty sure I can hit the exact spot with lightning, he needs to talk with better scientists.

Assuming his statement is true for a moment, does this mean he does shows/readings/etc. where he gets NOTHING?

It's just a typical out, and not even a creative one at that.

Incredible.

How depressing; firstly that John Edward could be so stupid and yet so successful. Secondly, that so many people will swallow this nonsense.
 
I've heard of researches firing up small rockets trailing metallic dust behind them to induce a lightning strike. (I vaguely recall a documentary where this was done.) Interesting thing was, it didn't even require a heavy clouds.

It's a wonderful, miraculous energy, really. Give me 40-50 chances and I may start getting some hits. I wonder if any Catholic officials have ever weighed in on his "gift."

I agree. The lightning strike anecdote is fiction. He really thinks that's clever? Yes, it's like lightning. That's the ticket. Yeah, and I take it on tour.

The Paracast recently had an interview with Schwartz and the hosts and the forum members all seem to think that he's the best thing since sliced bread, so to speak. Schwartz spoke of mediums and admitted that he thinks Edward is genuine and spoke of testing mediums who come up with amazing things that they could not possibly have known. And blah blah blah. I guess Schwartz will always have his fans and cheerleaders. :(

Edward is a coward and will use any excuse to keep from being tested by the MDC standards. Using the "why would I be tested by a man who has an adjective as a first name" is all he can come up with??? Or a stupid lightning excuse?

That would indeed have made very little sense! The actual argument was that if she weighs the same as a duck, then she must be a witch. :)
 
When John Edward was awarded Biggest Douche in the Universe was Jim Callahan in the running? Is this something we could work on?

I would like to see Jim Callahan channel Raymond Hill and take it to Edward in some type of lucha libre luchas de apuestas thing. (Matches with wagers.)
 
I would not call John Edward MaGee a coward. He is a ripoff artist, a scammer, a phoney, a totally immoral individual, a schmuck, a sly fox and not stupid enough to play with the big guys. He can con poor deluded and quite possibly early onset senilely demented Gary Schwartz (May the Schwartz be with you!), but not Randi and his gang.

Agreed. I still think he's a coward tho because he states that he will not even talk to skeptics. To me, that doesn't show he is smart to avoid them, it shows me, and I hope others, that he is too scared to be exposed and puts on a false bravado.
