I would be pissed about this even if there were only 5 fliers made.
Not to me. Yesterday a 12 year old was shot dead while trick-or-treating with his family. I reserve my emotions for stuff like that. But hey, you can get upset at anything you want.

I can honestly say that if I felt Lefty was serious, at all, in his statement, I would have responded appropriately.
?

He was just joking? Hmmm....

However, Lefty didn't actually put any effort into his statement. This flier had considerably more effort put into it.
Oh, so, following your logic racial epithets or insults are ok so long as someone doesn't put in any effort.

I also don't believe that waiting to see what effect something has is necessary to declare that thing as wrong. Do I have to wait until the knife enters the woman to declare that it was wrong to try to kill her?
How many times can I condemn any attempt to suppress voting before you will accept that I've called it wrong?

Sheesh.

What, you honestly believe he's about to go out, set fire to someone's house, and then string people up for something like this?

It's amazing how you're skeptical of one thing, but not another...

But if it makes you any happier, I'll go outraged about it now.

Leftysergeant, I cannot believe that you would suggest that you should set fire to people's property over something like this.

Please apologize for your statements, or declare that you are not really willing to do such a thing.

Happy now, Rand?

Racial epithets? You're reaching.

Fine, I hope my surrender above makes you happy.

Sheesh.

Maybe you don't get what I'm condemning here, because you keep acting like I'm doing something innately disagreeable.

I do not stand for people that work to defend the flier being spread around.

Does it matter if the flier actually was spread around? I guess.

But what if I said that a little boy was knifed. Someone said, "Yay!" Then someone else pointed out how it was most likely not an event that actually occurred. Would this justify the actual statement made earlier?

According to the story, there was a flier spread around.

This flier carried two official logos involving Virginia politics on it.

This flier was spread around.

People are defending this as "just a joke". And claiming that:

A) Democrats have no sense of humor

Or

B) It is justifiable because of ACORN.

That is what my outrage is about.

I suppose they could all be lying or not existent, but you know...

Intending to harm someone and uttering invective are both serious. Don't confuse one for the other.

Racial epithets? You're reaching.
No. I'm trying to make a point and obviously you are too flippant to get it. His words are inappropriate and not at all reflective of the Democratic platform or Obama. I'm not a Democrat but I know that much. We're not going to solve the problem of divisiveness by calling for people's houses to be burned down.

That is what my outrage is about.
Meh~ You are entitled to be outraged by whatever you want. Seems like a lot over very little in the scheme of things. I'm happy to side with you in that any attempt to suppress voting is wrong.

Well, you have a point, I'll admit.

But just because I don't respond to what someone else says (I thought someone else would, honestly), doesn't mean that I support what they say.

Of course. I honestly don't expect you to respond to every inaproprite remark. What others say isn't your responsibility. And you are right, to be fair to you I have known you long enough to know that you wouldn't share that sentiment.

Sorry.

Should your house be burned down?

Libertarians have no sense of humor. The house-burning part was a joke, but what I would do with their computers would actually involve great pain and suffering to the people doing it.

And they are Republicans who think they are cute. They did the same thing in 2004 and 2006, and they should be punished to the max allowed. They are not good Americans.

(My joke was better than theirs because it is more grounded in reality. If the snot-nosed creeps can't take a joke, and if they feel threatened that a Democrat would suggest violence against them, maybe they need to go see the shrink.)

The house-burning part was a joke...
And it was so funny. Reminds me of the jokes in the south about burning churches and crosses on folks lawns. It's hard to imagine anything funnier than arson. Thank you.

Actually, I don't think that your joke was funny at all. Although I'm sort of getting the feeling that you're being facetious when you say that.

Seriously, you don't need to go overboard about stuff like this.

{snipped}

Enough.

It's off topic and I won't continue in that vain.

You started it, you know. :p

You created the monster, Dr. Frankenstein. Now pay for your hubris!

Fine. Reserve some for the over 4000 US troops and estimated 90,000 civilians killed in Iraq since we were lied into that war by a president whose election was of a dubious nature.

Ok, but I think you need to start another thread if you want to discuss that. Just wait, come January you won't have Bill Clinton to kick around anymore.

Another distraction of my making.

Not at all. The butt of the joke was a gropup of snots who think it is cute to try to beguile new voters into blowing their chance.

Where is your outrage at the things the fat deaf misogynistic pillpopping sexually dysfunctional blathermeister on EIB has done this year? He thinks that is funny.

Republicans, if what they are doing this year is any indication, have a very sick and malicious sense of humor.

No, I think that this relevant to the OP. The activity is illegal and designed to mislead targeted voters and disenfranchise them. This, and other activities designed to steal elections used in the past were outlawed in 2007, in a bill sponsored by Obama.

I'm not convinced. We are discussing a specific incident. Even if it is a wide spread coordinated plan, which hasn't been established, it isn't directly tied to those who died in Iraq. There is no such nexus. Further, I don't accept the premise that any deaths were the act of a stolen election. Yes, it's arguable but we would have to accept the first premise before we make a leap to the second and I sincerely don't.

So, with all due respect I find your post OT. I think you need to start a new thread. I promise to contribute if you do.

So it is ok to dupe the uneducated, or even the "dunce" into rendering their constitutional right NULL AND VOID, by misleading them into missing the vote on election day?

Whether it is "ok" or not is not the question. The question was whether or not it is a joke, and it is.

There are lots of stupid jokes in the world. There are lots of jokes that are potentially harmful. I don't generally like those sorts of jokes, but that doesn't mean they aren't jokes.

I will admit that I cannot read minds, but I believe that the intent of this flyer was to make fun of people, not to suppress votes. At first, I didn't think it was funny, but, frankly, I found it funnier as I read more, because I perceived the true target of the humor. It isn't the people who are so stupid that they might be duped by such an obvious fraud. It is the people who will get up in arms about such an obvious fraud.

They are tweaking your noses, and you are falling for it.

Meadmaker...

You are supporting a version of the internet troll.

Not only that, but you are laughing with them.

Then you seem to support them making such jokes.

And further you don't see how outrageous using an ACTUAL SEAL actually is.

Sigh. You support an extreme version of the internet troll, one that's willing to break the law to troll. Go figure.

Yeah, where did they find that logo? It doesn't look like anything an election commission would use. That must have taken some time.
