This would have to be the most poorly-thought-out political stunt in recent history.
Second only to putting W on the ballot in 2000. :p
He wasn't a plant. He's just some guy, who's now having his tax returns scrutinized by 300 million people because he dared to ask Barack Obama a question.
Yes.

This "swift boating" of Joe the Plumber ought to be an embarassment to Obama supporters. The overreaction, the sheer rabid dog style response, is a real downer.

The guy ain't even running, folks, he's a dude with an opinion.

As to having more press conferences than Sarah Palin: *Snort*

Methinks plumber PWNS hockey mom in the latest rock - paper - scissors game being played in the press.

Joe may begin having a few choice words for McCain making such a celebrity out of him. Joe could very well lose his drivers license because of the spotlight McCain put on him ...

Opps.

And Obama wants to give driver licenses to illegal aliens. Oops!

Huh? The dude is a plant. If not that, a political tool, who is losing a big game.

The guy ain't even running, folks, he's a dude with an opinion.

An opinion that has been shown to contradict his own best welfare?

Well, let's get to the truth...she has had, "NONE"...for this "Joe" get's the credit. At least this Moran can get to the mike and tell his lies.

Huh?

JTP was a bad "play" in the RNC playbook......Rove will agree with moi. :0

Thanks for confirming that libs are so gullible to beleive that Obama manged to stop in front of the house of McCain's supposed plant, "Joe."

If you are going to accuse someone of being a moron, you might want to at least spell it correctly so as not to appear moronic.

Interviews are not going to dig up anything new? Huh? Please show me an interview where the reporter asks Ayers about his connection with Obama?

You appear to be under the impression you would get an answer that differs in any way to what is already known.

The fact that Ayers background prepared him for his role as a professor with a PhD in Education is a perfect example of the mindset that is attracted to the nebulous field of education.

PhDs do not include background checks. They are not interested in how you perform on any given moral scale.

He has writen a significant amount with regard to education theory. Which bits do you disagree with?

The press often focuses on banality and that's not a good thing. But that said:

Given that McCain made Joe the centerpiece of the debate, and given that McCain misrepresented Joe (in particular and in the abstract), the notion that the press is not going to jump all over it is fanciful. It's their job to report misrepresentations made by the candidates.

(Maybe the press went too far; I dunno because I haven't followed it much.)

As a side point, I'm always a bit sorry to see the term swiftboat reduced from the extraordinary to the ordinary.

Ok, have you NO humor? remember that dude back in '04? with the sign? at a rally/protest?

Here's a link for you! Are you actually one of those "under-informed"? Or just one that has no memory?

(I would 'hotlink' but the notifications bother me)

Or "drink the Kool-Aid!"

Every single web site, by posters of every single stripe... seriously, both sides (and libertarians ;)) should knock it off with this phrase. "Don't drink the Kool-Aid" could become a campaign slogan for supporters of each side in this election cycle!* :boggled:

* And stop it with all combinations of various generic brand versions of this phrase, such as: Cool-Aid, cool-aid, cool aid, koolaid, etc.

:D

Wow....a fan I am.

I NEVER liked the Kool-Aid, even as a child.

It's just sugar and water, with some BS flavor.

Has the world gone mad?

Maybe I'm too optimistic, but I just don't see the fuss over Joe The Plumber.

He's not a plant. Until I see some real evidence, this is just a conspiracy theory. Face it, if he was a plant, his story would hold together better.

He's not changing the election, either. The polls may be tightening slightly for McCain in the last few days, but not significantly, and correlation need not imply causation. Maybe it isn't JTP at all, rather he's being used as a strawman argument by Republicans, and while this may energize the base and cause a seeming shift in momentum, this will have no effect on the voters who matter, in the middle.

The story of Joe The Plumber was hyperbole, period. He has some grumpy, big-L-Libertarian views on progressive taxation. He's entitled to hold those views. He tried to construct a scenario where Obama's tax plans hurt him, and McCain echoed them, but under scrutiny it just isn't so. That should be the end of it. It was another misleading story, like so many told by both sides in all three debates. Finis.

I don't care whether he has a contractor's license, driver's license, owes back taxes, whatever. Those are issues for his local government to sort out or ignore as they see fit. They have no bearing on either campaign.

As near as I can tell, it is the media jumping all over this, desperate for a story that isn't the same old nonsense they've been slinging for weeks. Holding either candidate responsible for the stories, false, true, or exaggerated, is ridiculous.

In my opinion, anyone who votes solely on the basis of Joe The Plumber is a fool. There are plenty of real distinguishing features of the two candidates. Choose accordingly.

Sorry for the sermon, but these kinds of shenanigans drive me up the wall.

I always preferred Tang. But that makes sense, I was into everything having to do with the space program!

Ok, Ben....even we agree that Randi is funny (and well-informed)...but "Tang"?

That **** was like Orange Juice without any "Juice"...I will argue that it was Kool-aid for the dudes in space suits...I like the space suit.

Just don't confuse that with Cool. ;)

p.s. there is NO pulp fiction in the "Tang"

Joe brought it all on himself by running his mouth and trying to look macho. Probably thought he was going to just go out there and give that liberal upstart a piece of his mind and then have something to brag about with his redneck drinking buddies.

Sorry, Joe fans. All he did was show his redneckness to the country, and somebody thought they could make use of it. The election coverage needed an example of an idiot who votes against his own best interests and he handed them one.

That his redneck lack of moral character came out is his problem.

That McCain has not distanced himself from the dumb bumpkin is his problem now. McCain has shown again how deeply he looks into the chartacter of those around them. As long as they bow to do obsience to his lumpy gluteals, they are cool.

Eek!

The media is overlooking their own story and is running this guy through the grinder like tabloids. This guy asked a question. That's all. The focus should be on Obama's answer not OMG JOE IZ NOT A PLUMBER!

Since I disagree with the rudimentary liberal pedagogical education clap trap, I doubt I would find much to agree with this radical liberal's education doctrinaire.

I think the focus should be on the fact that McCain is hanging so much of his recent campaign rhetoric on the maunderings of a fat-headed redneck with no clue.

But then, that is the breeding ground of GOP doctrine anyway. The maunderings of fat heads, whiners and greedy little paranoid twits who think that the gubmint is the only reason they aren't all rich as kings and that they are entitled to every dime they lay hands on.

I saw this weird interview with him, concepts like tax progression and employer's co-responsibility for his employees' health care turned out to be far beyond his grasp.

For Europeans, that sounds absolutely preposterous!

Joe is an example of the product that right-wing-influenced "education" produces.

He has bought into the notion that the Rushblob understands education better than a college graduate does. I have seen his type before, back in the 60s.
