Okay, so I was replying to a post and while I was typing it seems a flame war occured and my hard work ended up being posted to the AAH section, so I'm reposting here where it was supposed to be. The actual question I was replying too, before the bit that got it AAH'ed, seemed to me to be a fair question, if a rather ignorant one.
let me ask this has the U.S govt ever lied about anything, ever committed a crime, or ever done anything wrong EVER?
All politicians lie, and I'd have to say that the illegal phone taping was criminal, as was the outing of Valerie Plame Wilson as a covert CIA agent (it's questionable if there was more than just one person involved in that or if he threw himself on his sword to save a higher up.)
Does that mean that everything the US Government says is a lie, or that they always commit crime, no, each action needs to be taken on the merits of its own evidence.
Just because Bush and co over-emphasized the WMD's in Iraq Intell and minimised the Intel that said there wasn't, or that what they were being told was dodgy, doesn't mean they lied about 9/11. (In fact it also doesn't mean that Saddam didn't have WMDs, one of his own Generals claimed they shipped them out to Syria right before the invasion and there is always the question, if Saddam really had nothing to hide, why did he allow the invasion to occur? He could have stopped it simply by allowing the UN inspectors to restart their work without hindrance. Why did he allow his regime to be toppled over... well nothing? That doesn't make any sense at all...)
The final issue is this... What part of the US Government are we talking? Personally I think Bush is a genetically engineered Chimp and Cheney isn't that far behind, but at the same time there are thousands of people who work for the Federal Government that were there before Clinton took office and will be there long after Obama is a footnote in history. They certainly aren't Bush loyalists and most of them tend to resent the Whitehouse getting in their way no matter who is in charge. Do we tar them with the same brush simply because they are part of the Federal Government? If not, then regardless of what you think about Bush and his posse of loons, you suddenly find that the Whitehouse has nothing to do with the "official story". Most of it was put together by over 7,000 FBI agents that worked on the case. Further parts were established by the FAA, NYPD, FDNY, NTSB, NIST, FEMA, are they all in on it? How about United and American Airlines? They aren't even part of the US Government. Did you know that the two airlines have the ability to use an onboard tracking system to determine where their planes are and when they take off and land? Did you know that while everyone else was trying to determine what flights had hit the WTC that UA and AA knew and it was them that advised the FAA as to the identity of the planes? If the planes weren't AA11, UA175, AA77 and UA93 are you saying that the Airline staff were lying about it? Where they in on it? Did they deliberately send their colleagues to their deaths and their companies in near bankruptcy (UA) and actual bankruptcy (AA)?
You have to note that already we're into the tens of thousands of people needing to be in on it, and we haven't even covered the thousands of volunteers, police, firecrews, customs agents and others that spent weeks and months scouring through the debris of WTC 1, 2, 3 & 7, the Pentagon, and the crash site near Shanksville looking for evidence. How does a conspiracy that large hold together for 7 years when the national media get told all about hanky-panky in the Oval office that involved a grand total of just two people within months of it happening?
Try putting your hate of Bush and anti-war feelings to one side for a moment and think a little rationally.
