Deleterious Slab of Damnation
99% of which people? You wouldn't happen to be making up statistics again, would you?
Wmadoss: You could "just read the bible"....IF you had any confidence in that document as a collection of historically accurate stories.
Unfortunately, as we have been trying to show through this thread, no such confidence exists.
99% of the people do just read the bible, and that's all they need to obtain spiritual peace and joy from the bible. Geisler's books are written for the 1% who can't get peace that way.
Thank ehumm "god" I live in Sweden where 80% are agnostic/atheists.
And the majority of the world doesnt believe in christianity for that matter.
Do you have a source for those figures?
In your dreams. Not even in the US Bible Belt do you have 99% believers. Much less out in the real world.
Hans
I cant post links yet, I think I need 15 posts but go to google and type in
christianity majority world believe
and click the first hit should be from adherents.com
Do you want a source for the percentage of swedens religious beliefs as well?
I can probabaly dig it up if you want to.
The wikipedia is also quite good search for Major religious groups.
Christianity is obviously the largest but it in itself is not a majority but holds 33%.
This before we subtract the vast majority who are not True ChristiansChristianity: 2.1 billion
OK, then I can't talk for the Bible Belt, but where I am, most people have reas the bible (they teach it in school), but most don't think much about it after that.I guess I could have been a little clearer. What I was talking about was the people who read the bible and are believers. 99% in my opinion get peace and joy from it without putting every verse under a microscope. They know the main messages of the bible and thats all they really care about.
That's not to say that you can't analyze every verse and still find peace and joy in it. Guys like Geisler and Dr. Hugh Ross do just that.
[...snip...
So approx. a third of the worlds population are christian, so they are the majority religion, but christians are not the majority of the worlds population. Does that make sense DOC??
This before we subtract the vast majority who are not True Christians.

Actually, I have some difficulty understanding how that book can bring anybody peace and joy, but maybe that's just me.

I assume you prefer your machinations to all be sheep derived?Although I've never been a big fan of the Deus ex Machina endings.
And Geisler does not provide any science to back up his claims. He uses scientific words, but that's not the same thing.
