Excellent act, great stage work. I enjoyed the writhing as the "spirit" possessed you and the collapse at the moment of "release"........excellent!

I have also seen your video clip where you talk of challenging James Randi. Strong words.

So Jim this is how I see it.

I'm also a paranormalist. I do the "channelling" trip but under very different circumstances than you.
And from my experience you must be either one hell of great practitioner or a just good stage performer. My money is on stage performer.

But if you are as good as you claim, then take Randi's challenge.
Shut the old bugger up once and for all.

If not, stop pretending that you can do something that you can't.

Then you should take this up with TheProfessor, who has yet to articulate what his allegedly paranormal claim is, and who has instead spent a great deal of time blathering about everything he could think of that _wasn't_ his claim.

The ball is in his court, and in yours if you wish to apply. If you submit a formal application _with_ a stated paranormal claim, then you can find out how that claim will be tested. That simple. But you have to apply.

Can you apply, Jim?

All things considered, it seems the only paranormal claim the Professor can establish is that when asked to explain what he can do -- he vanishes into thin air.

After 18 pages and the corresponding amount of elapsed time, you'd think he would've figures out a way to say what paranormal ability he claims to have, or action he can perform. But lacking that, I have to say...

I see that you are not clarifying what it is you can do. I see that you are not even saying whether the "voices" will be audible or will appear only on tape.

I see you grandstanding about commercials, your NBC connections, all of your volunteers and more without producing any proof at all that any of this is in any way true (not that it would matter to your claim).

I see an email from you to paranormal researchers but I see no evidence that even one group has acknowledged your request at all (not that it would matter to your claim).

And, last, I see you for what you are.

(Called a Paranormal Portal by hundreds of local residents in Cassadaga and Lake Helen.
Cassadaga, Florida, is proud of its Devil's Chair. The town has a reputation as a haven for occultists, mediums and other spiritualist sorts, and a cemetery between Cassadaga and Saint Helen has, by one of its graves, a brick-and-mortar armchair. Not particularly cozy, I suspect, but if one's used to parking one's tail on brimstone, it may indeed be the La-Z-Boy of infernal decor. James Randi himself must be present to represent the James Randi Eductional Foundation's Million Dollar Challenge in Lake Helen at the Devil's Chair. No secondary substitutes should be acceptable since I've signed a contract with James Randi himself.

Inside of a custom Faraday cage designed with clear and accepted scientific standards of effectiveness, will be two video recorders, two televisions, two audio recording devices, and two laptop computers. The video camera/recorders and televisions will be set in a video loop with the camera facing the television screen and connected to cause this loop and turned on prior to the Invocation.. The audio recording devices will also be turned on as well as the audio/video recording programs in the laptops at the same time. All recording tape will be free of any previous recording. All other instruments will be free of previous recording, either erased or simply blank from the beginning of the test. All recordings will be clean and blank prior to the test. The double testing will insure an effective test should any devices fail during the experiment.

The recording devices will be turned on before the initial Invocation and will be left on for 27 minutes.

During this time the Invocation will be given once again approximately 15 minutes into the test.

The recording instruments will be examined. The tape recordings, and digital recordings will be viewed and listened to.

Since the devices were blank prior to the Invocation the following will be true.

If any evidence is found on the tapes or digital recordings that is NOT SCIENTIFICALLY EXPLAINABLE it will be considered a successful test of the Paranormal.



2.2 What is the definition of “paranormal” in regards to the Challenge?

Webster’s Online Dictionary defines “paranormal” as “not scientifically explainable; supernatural.”

Within the Challenge, this means that at the time your application is submitted and approved, your claim will be considered paranormal for the duration. If, after testing, it is decided that your ability is either scientifically explainable or will be someday, you needn’t worry. If the JREF has agreed to test you, then your claim is paranormal.



This is a very testable claim and I can't wait to perform it on 10/31/2008 for the Million Dollar Prize!

This "protocol" does not account for falsifiability and hence is unacceptable. But the JREF will let you know that themselves.

Also, making a demand such as "[...]James Randi himself must be present[...]" do not lend you credibility. Quite the opposite. And it illustrates how deliberate and entirely you still misunderstand the MDC.

This proposal seems clearly intended to provoke a rejection. And water is wet.

this is exactly the same claim that you had provided earlier and that had been rejected by JREF.

I will, once again, tell you why:

If any evidence is found on the tapes or digital recordings that is NOT SCIENTIFICALLY EXPLAINABLE it will be considered a successful test of the Paranormal.

That's why. Read the Challenge application rules:

Applicant must state clearly what is being claimed as the special ability upon which they wish to be tested, and test protocols must be agreed upon by both parties before any testing will take place. All tests must be designed in such a way that the results are self-evident, so that no judging or voting process is required.

Bolding mine. Your claim requires judging to determine whether or not you passed the test - whether or not there is something "scientifically explainable".

That's not how it works. You don't get to say, "Well, I can't tell you exactly what you will be seeing, but when you'll see it, you'll know it's not scientifically explainable, trust me!".

Why? Because later, when they tell you that they saw nothing inexplainable, you could say, "Oh really, how about this?", and they would say, "That's explainable", and you would say, "No it isn't, look at this weird aspect of it", and they would say, "That's perfectly normal", and you could say, "No, it isn't", etc. etc. That's not a self-evident result that requires no judging, that's the very opposite of it.

What you instead need to do is state in advance what particular result will your experiment have. Then you can get JREF to agree that such result is paranormal, because then specific measures can be taken to rule out normal causes.

What result do you claim your demonstration will have? What will appear on the tapes? Will it be some images? What aspect of them do you claim will be paranormal and scientifically unexplainable?

You can't say, "Oh, there will be something about the record that's paranormal." You must say what will be paranormal about the record.

Then you'll have a testable claim.
