The only quote I found mildly disturbing is one that said that Palin thinks the protection of Israel is a "biblical imperative", but does not reference the quote. There are plenty of good reasons to support Israel, but "the bible says so" is not one of them. It makes me concerned what other policies she may support because of biblical teachings: I'd hate my poly/cotton shirts to be banned.

I'm not sure what she meant either, but if it means preserving areas of historic importance to 2 major religions that may be wiped out if a 3rd religion were to gain control of the area, then I agree with her. Despite being an atheist (raised in a non-religious Christian household), I found it an amazing experience to stand on the spots where the historical Jesus stood. I also don't believe in Buddhism, but I wouldn't want to see the 4 holy sites of Buddhism destroyed.

This does not diminish the holy sites even if most of thier locations were arbitrarily determined by someone ages after the events using "inspiration".


as to the OP topic. If I was running for office I would express my deep and everlasting support for Israel. American generally have a strong identification with Israel and strongly agree with US support of Israel. so I would too because I'm a politician.

Admittedly I haven't done a lot of reading about the historical Jesus, but it's kind of always been my understanding that we do know that there was a Jewish person named Jesus put to death by the Romans in the early 1st century. But again, I could be wrong.

If there are contemporaneous historical records from the romans documenting this I have never heard of them.

To me the question is academic. I would not be suprised if the man existed, but I'm certain that all the alleged miracles are just tall tales told to and by his followers, as is common in religious cults. It could be that the Romans at the time didn't consider him noteworthy enough for an obituary or to make any mention in historical records.
