Oh oh

I think that once she wrestled the shotgun away from the two men trying to kill her, she should have:

1. Told them to lie down
2. Fired a warning shot if necessary.
3. If they ran at her, she should shoot to wound, first
4. Make sure the toys on the front lawn were cleared out of the way lest one of the attackers running at her to try to murder her trip and injure himself, allowing him to sue her.

Since she did none of these things, she should get her ass handed to her in court, including a murder charge.

Also, telling her 12 year old to get the 5 year old and hide probably caused psychological damage on the home invaders because they couldn't find kids to rape easily, yet another lawsuit on her.

Women are amazing creatures. I grew up in household filled with them. Don't know that it made me understand them any better or be any less terrified of them, but I think it did make me feel in awe of them.

Color me confused:
By then the tussle had spilled out onto the front lawn. Keith Hoehn shot one of the men who had a pistol, police said. Wounded, that man ran away.

Then the intruder who initially had the shotgun charged Keith Hoehn.

Kellie Hoehn told The Dallas Morning News that she screamed at her husband, "Shoot him, shoot him, shoot him."

Her husband fired the shotgun and the man fell to the ground. Then the shot man lunged a second time.

"Well, I shot him again, and I guess that was it," Keith Hoehn said.
How does that make the headline "Texas Woman Kills Home Intruder With His Own Gun"?

Is husband Keith Hoehn also a woman? I didn't know they allowed that in Texas.

Also, the intruder charged a man holding a shotgun he knew to be loaded (because it was his)? That's a darwin award candidate right there.

The incident happened in Texas. Texas has the castle law. It gives the homeowner the right to kill an intruder on thier property who are armed or intend bodily harm.

I assume the idea is for the law to act as an deterrent to anyone thinking of conducting a home invasion.

The Texas courts will view this as a textbook case of self protection under the castle law. Th Husband and wife will not be charged at all.

I live in Texas and have had my house broken into twice. The officers told me that if I or my wife are in the house during a break in or home invasion to shoot, and make sure to kill the intruder lest they survive and try to sue.

Honest to god they told me that in so many words.

Wow, usually the straw man arguments don't show up until the second page. Congratulations.

As a staunch proponent of gun control law, let me say that there is nothing in the report of what these two people did that I find in the slightest objectionable. They were entirely within their rights to use deadly force to protect their families. My only disappointment is that the second intruder was not killed, and thus will now have to be tried and imprisoned at taxpayer's expense.

Is there anything else you would like to discuss?

Not unless there was surgery involved

Well you kind of have to question the intruders intelligence for attempting a home invasion in Texas of all places. Where even the police yell "Shoot the guy dead! He's still on your property!"

Considering that the SECOND perp had a pistol and was FIRING at the Homeowners, anybody who thinks they did something wrong needs to get a ****ing life, and look at reality.
These jackasses had shown they were willing to shoot. Thanks to the safety being on, they weren't successful in making it go boom.
Damn liberals and Frenchmen.

No the intruder should have been killed. he got exactly what he deserved. Society won't have to feed clothe and house this predator and perhaps someone else will be spared being the victim of a senseless crime. Too bad the other punk isn't dead also.

Huh? Where did you read he was firing?

I've not seen anyone here suggesting the homeowners did anything wrong. You are upset about nothing.

ETA: unless you are misinterpreting Beerina's sarcasm....

Oh, One last thing Beerina.
You do know that that family is still alive because of the actions they took. True we don't know what the intentions of the criminals were and the family could have easily been killed in the struggle.

But in my book, I'd rather take my chances fighting for my survival rather than sit and quitely take whatever it was the home invaders were planning to do.

Maybe they were just there to rob the place, But you don't know that at the time and if that was all they were there to do they could have waited untill there was nobody in the house so that there would'nt be any problems.....Like the problem they ran into that night.

Knee-jerk reaction to the usual pacifist posters here. Mea Culpa...

"Better 12 men judging than 6 men carrying" is my philosophy in these matters. Besides, it happened awfully close to home, and very close to a couple of my friends homes...
ETA: The firing was from an earlieer report, yesterday. Apparently, they were actually referring to the shotgun wielder trying to pull the trigger...Not an unusual confusion for initial reports. Sorry

Um, you do realize that Beerina was being sarcastic in OP, do you?

I can't say for sure, but...

Tends to make me think she might have been being a tad facetious. :)

I'm surprised he wasn't shooting. His buddy was being taken down and his shotgun taken away. He was an armed accomplice and his reaction was to run get in the van and try to drive away, never firing a shot.

what, does Texas have pacifist home invaders now?

Either that, or some people have enough resistance to drugs so that reality can intrude a little maybe?

My bad. I don't pick up sarcasm in print very well.
Not your fault. Without a sarcasm font, how are you supposed to be able to tell?

There must be someone you can sue.

Again, Appologies for not picking up the sarcasm. Beerina's last statement might not be as facetious as it was intended.

While I was talking to those police officers after the second break-in to my house, I mentioned that I was planning to put up razor wire on my fence. The officer told me to think twice about that because he knew of a case where a criminal cut himself up badly trying to get through razor wire and successfully sued the homeowner for the injuries. Though I've never verified the incident.

Could be lack of intelligence. He was breaking into a house in a state that has the castle law and 90% of the citizens own at least one gun. So either he was not very bright or really desparate. Or both.
