Rove says Palin does not have enough expereince

That should be required viewing for every single voter in America. I don't know how many people I've showed that to today, just an amazing, amazing clip.

Stewart did a great job with that segment last night. The best part is Rove bragging that Wasilla is the second largest city in Alaska, but Richmond, Virginia is only the 135th(?) largest city in America. Do you think Rove knows what a douche he is?

Yeah, what was that? I know Anchorage is the largest city, and I'm almost certain Juneau and Fairbanks are bigger than Wasilla. Here's the 2000 census - at BEST, Wasilla may have moved up to 4th.

BTW, I think The Daily Show has done a great job with the Palin coverage thus far.

Me too.

Actually I think Stewart and Colbert have done a good job on the whole election cycle.

I have a theory, I have not flushed it out but in the little I have thought about it it does seem to make sense.

"Real" news has to keep people entertained by "News Stories" (news is "entertainment" after all). Stewart and Colbert keep people entertained by their wit and humor so they can actually do harder news reporting without fear of people losing interest.

I know that they have a bias, Colbert's "thing" is built on the whole inside joke that he IS biased. But I think their real news reporting is pretty well done as long as I remember that they have a slant (in fairness they will knock the left as well just not as often for sure).

Anyway, I think that video is very interesting. Bias included I think it speaks for its self.

I agree. The MSM is never going to show the vid clips that these two show because MSM is terrified of being labeled by the "liberal" brush. It's pretty well reached the point where you can get more useful information from Stewart and Colbert than from Brian Williams.

Did you see Colbert tonight? He showed Giuliani's speech at the RNC in which he mentioned Obama's community work, and then Rudy bursts out laughing. Aren't the Repubs the ones who are always telling us that problems should be solved by local community groups rather than the government? And when Obama does that they laugh at him?

Giuliani should be ashamed of himself.

I thought Giuliani's entire speech was embarrassing on many levels. His was the speech with awkward "wait for the laugh" pauses; I read that slam leveled at Palin somewhere here, but I thought her speech was actually very well-received by the audience. His speech felt cringe-inducing to me, not dissimilar to his nightmarish "acting" performances on SNL. Not really the best mouthpiece for the party, that's for sure. Generallly a weird choice for a keynote speaker, I actually didn't think he was all that popular of a Republican.

And he reached a level of smug that I didn't think possible, and that I would like to never see again.

I heard the other night that for young people in the USA, that's exactly how it does work.

My theory is that they are comedians that want to do jokes about the news and politics, but they find they must do extensive setups in order for people to get the jokes. This is a cause of deep misgiving in both programs as well. I bet if you asked them both, they'd rather the audience be informed enough to allow them to just do the jokes.

I love to laugh at them (and The Onion as well, OMFG), but there's a indictment of American culture lurking beneath both programs (more overtly done in The Colbert Report). And their greater success is in skewering the very presentational style of all televised news, giving their core audience a healthy dose of skepticism about how they get their information.

Thus making them all True American Heroes.

I agree 100%. The joke under the joke is actually what my partner / girlfriend and I enjoy the most and the skepticism lesson is part of that underlying message.

I know many folks around here probably know this but there was a survey done a while back about the most informed viewers of TV news programs and the viewers of both shows were at the top of the list. Again, it's the mix of humor, real news reporting with the solid dose of skepticism that seems to be at work there.
