Choosing a vice president who is unfit to be president shows a lack of judgement and concern for the future of the nation.

McCain has shown as much judgement as he has flying skills.
 
This is obviously going to break along party lines, and given the voting for president in the sticky section, it's pretty obvious the donks have a majority here.

I continue to be amused at the folks highlighting Palin's relative lack of experience compared to Biden, while ignoring Obama's lack of experience compared to McCain. Consistent, not so much.
 
I voted for Obama in my state's primary/caucus mainly because of my opposition (from the beginning) to the Iraq war. I did this despite my disagreement with Obama on economic issues. And despite some evidence that the surge may be working, I still stand by my choice of Obama in the November election.

If Biden had still been running, I probably would have voted for him the Democratic nominee because his plan for a 3 state solution in Iraq and his command of judicial issues. Over the years, I have watched Biden grill Supreme Court nominees on CSPAN and have admired his command of the issues and relevant questions, especially compared to some most of the other Senators.

That said, I think Palin was a brilliant choice from a chess player perspective. Does anyone remember the Democratic Party's meetings this past June when Hillary supporters tried to change the rules after the game was over to admit all Michigan and Florida delegates to the convention? Does anyone remember the hysteria from some who said Hillary will be the last chance to have a woman become President for the next 50 years?

Disaffected Hillary voters who would actually vote for a Republican may not be a huge voting block, but so far the polls have been pretty close. And so that might be enough to swing the outcome. (Recall the effect of Nader supporters in 2000.) Please note, I am not actually saying this will happen because I still think this will be a Democratic year. Given the economy and the war, I still believe this is Obama's election to lose.

As for how good Palin would be as President, I have insufficient evidence at this time to make that call. All I am hearing from the media is that Republican hacks love her and Democratic hacks hate her which would have been the case with anyone McCain would have chosen. At this point, without more investigation, how could a skeptic think otherwise?

Like many other users here that choose reality over religion, I found the last poll option very attractive. I also chose the first one because Joe Biden is not the most corrupt US Senator IMHO.

being a sportscaster and teaching law are different experiences. Which one do you suppose is more likely to have a solid understanding of the constitution?
 
Having the pregnancy questions come out the day of her nomination sure did her a lot of good, didn't it? There is already a smell of rotting albatross about her.
 
Well, I like how Puppycow adds poll options to many of his threads. Of course somebody could check all of the boxes and muddy the results. I'm gonna wait a few minutes before doing that though.

I think Biden would make a better President than Palen, and I think he was a better choice politically. I don't think he would be a GOOD president, or even that the choice was politically all that great -- Obama received virtually no bump (before someone says something- yes, I am aware of the arguments as to why he received no bump).
 
I voted good/good for Biden. Not that I think he'd be a great president, but there was no "okay" option. Palin? Who's McCain kidding?

Gee I wonder if the results of this poll track the overall preference of forumgoers for Obama and McCain? It does? Hm.
 
So? The question is whether the results of this poll reflect independent thought or simply confirmation bias. If the results are not substantially different than what people have already said their Presidential preference is, the it's an indication that people are going to view the VP picks based on their feelings for the candidate as much as (or more than) any independent review of the choices.
