Sarah Palin!

You may not like it, but it is still true -- and will hurt Biden as much as it hurt Gore in 2000.

Unless you have psychic abilities, you don't know that to be true. And if you do have psychic abilities, I know of a million dollar challenge you can apply for.

It's the "Ape Rape" joke that has never been verified, nor the rumor that he called his wife a **** (rhymes with punt).

About 5 million of the 18 million who voted for Hillary, whom Bill Clinton outrageously proclaimed at the convention as definitely voting for Obama, will most likely now vote McCain.
There you go again with your "proclaimed" inventions. I won't bother asking you to support it like last time ("Penn, Streisand have proclaimed 9/11 to be an inside job."). I just find it funny that you continue to contribute to a critical thinking forum. As if.

Beyond their gender, on which issues do Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin agree? I have a hard time believing that 5 million Hillary supporters will vote for McCain just because he selected a women who is pro-life, against same sex marriage, and a creationist as his running mate.

I think this was a great pick for VP. Why isn't she qualified for the position? What qualifications do you need for this? She wasn't nominated for secretary of state or defense. I believe that being the mayor of a small town with 9000 people constitutes legitimate experience for vice president. A lot of people in America live in small towns. It isn’t like McCain is a candidate like Schwarzenegger. There seems to be enough experience on the republican and democraic tickets. I don’t like Obama because he is too liberal, not for a lack of experience.

I believe it was arragont for Obama not to pick Hillary. He could have handed him self the presidency if he put Hillary on the ticket.

McCain is a 72-year-old former POW. The chance that he will die in the next 8 years has to be a consideration.

Hillary is not for same-sex marriage, and there's plenty of Dems who are creationists and anti-abortion.

And there are people who will vote for someone based solely on gender, race, religion, and other things completely unrelated to the office.

No, just to be the leader of the free world and commander-in-chief of the world's greatest military power should her 72-year-old, stressed-out running mate be incapacitated. Not that Obama has the best qualifications for those jobs, but is this really the person who McCain thinks
1) Is the most qualified to be president, next to him, and
2) will accept the VP job?

Really? Or is McCain telling Hillary supporters that he thinks they're idiots?

You have a point about the same sex marriage thing, but I doubt Hillary had many supporters who were creationists and pro-life. Do you honestly think nearly 30% of her supporters will vote for McCain?

McCain's age and health have generally not been seriously discussed over the past year. I wonder how that will change with Palin as his running mate.

After thinking about it more this afternoon, I still see her as a bad choice. It is a ballsy one though. She does help McCain with some social conservatives. She may be an asset on energy and fiscal responsibility. Her inexperience completely hamstrings McCain's strongest argument against Obama though, especially concerning foreign policy and terrorism. McCain is now going to have to convince people to vote for him based on his position on the issues. That brings Bush back into play on many things. It'll be interesting to see how he lays out his positions and policies over the coming week.

If Obama hadn't made it so already, it certainly makes this election one that will always be remembered.

I'm pretty sure he said it back in '98. I'm looking to confirm it.

ETA: I was beaten to it by ksbluesfan ... http://www.internationalskeptics.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3988734&postcount=202

I googled it, and couldn't find anything except the assertion that he said this in the blog that was referenced. No confirmation, and no record of him saying it, or an apology that I could find. Belief in what appears on a blog is pretty thin ice, I think.

There was also an assertion that the press was covering up what McCain said and not priting it because it was too ugly. But no links to any where it WAS reported; only very few rumor that it wasn't. It's a case of saying "Obama doesn't deny beating his wife." and then saying the press is covering up for him.

I'd like to see a solid link to where he said this. I'm not saying he didn't, but I won't believe it until I see a reliable source. I'm saying it would be out of character to say that, plus, as I said earlier, Chelsea Clinton isn't ugly at all. I think McCain knows this.

Can you provide a real link?

I don't see it as a risky choice, since McCain would certainly have lost or nearly lost if he had chosen another dull Mid-Westerner.

As I said earlier, she's been all over the conservative and NRA-leaning blogs for weeks prior. It stunned me for its good sense rather than it being a bad choice.

Well, he's looking for people that vote unqualified women into office. Thats a sizable chunk of New York State.

But, you're right. If this is his attempt to go after PUMA's, its stupid.

Its an attempt to distance himself from Bush, to appeal to working mom's, to show the his party is moving forward, to bring youth into the fold, then its pretty damned good.

How is a joke about Chelsea being ugly sexist? I mean she bloomed nicely, but man she used to be an eyesore.

Nation of crybabies just waiting to be offended by something, I swear.
