NIST Issues Warning to those working in buildings

My favourite parts were when they claimed thermal expansion is a new physical phenomena, and that the fires in WTC7 were "small, ordinary office fires".

Well hey, who knew that being in a building that has been on fire for several hours could be dangerous?Only everyone involved at ground zero that day, which is why there are no fatalities recorded due to WTC7s collapse.

It would be sad if it were not so funny that people still make videos like this in 2008.

Actually goldstein ordered the removal of FF`s, right?
Pull it (my finger)!

I didn’t open the link but is that a joke? How many times are warnings given out because of first time in history events? What's the likelihood of it happening ever again when it’s never happened before and hasn't happened since? Maybe NIST can recommend parachutes at every window first come first serve. I mean if they’re just going to pretend to be of any value to anyone. How much money did those useless reports cost anyway?

Yeah right. I feel safer already. Don’t go into a tall building period. Because you never know what might happen. Ok NIST. Gotcha. Thanks.

You do realize that accidents and mishaps of all forms in all fields are investigated for this very reason, don't you?

Aircraft accidents. Look up Airworthiness Directives.
Contaminated food cases. Like what Maple Leaf is currently experiencing, with the outbreak of listerosis.
Workplace injuries. Safety evaluations are done after an accident. Hell, I've done them. Codes for machine safety, training, and personell are continually bieng updated.
To give three examples.

This is done to prevent the incident from happening again.

That you would make such a post demonstrates a definite inability to think through to the conclusions of your own hyperbole.

Dumb video, dumb movement, with member who believe dumb ideas. Disrespectful dolts with no evidence make a pathetic video for others who believe the dolts.

How dumb do you have to be, to make a video with that much stupid in it?

From what I read there was one incident that engineers would like to understand what happened to replicate the scenario. There was that hotel for some inexplicable reason decided to stay standing after being cleaved in two by falling debris.

Five second search on wikedpia actually shows that there is a word for thermal expansion damage on train tracks sun kink.

I'm guessing this was a joke, but just for any resident truther lurkers, it was Daniel Nigro who ordered firefighters away from WTC7.

I think you could possibly claim the drinking bird is thermal expansion, although it involves a state change as far as I know.

How many floors were on fire? All? Half? 25%? I'm pretty sure entire buildings have been on fire for longer periods of time without suffering global collapse caused by thermal expansion.

You should probably inform the FDNY that the fires burning in WTC7 were inconsequential to its collapse. They'll be quite surprised to hear that.

No joke you got owned. Figure it out.

Funny how Truthers think thermal expansion is some new thing invented by NIST. Even if it were it wouldn't be the first time that an investigation unveiled new phenomenon. The investigation into the Kings Cross fire revealed the Trench Effect.

But thermal expansion is well known. I've been using this tidbit as a fun trivia fact for years:

Depending on the ambient temperature, the top of the tower may shift away from the sun by up to 18 cm (7 in) because of thermal expansion of the metal on the side facing the sun.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eiffel_TowerWP

Pfttt... Your thermostat works on the same process.

Wanna bet? Although boilers typically use thermocouples to detect a functioning pilot light. Regardless there are a lot of examples of its use.

I'm guessing you're making some sort of bizarre claim that Silverstein knew his building would collapse and is therefore guilty of insurance fraud. There are a few problems with this
  • Silverstein was not involved at ground zero
  • He did not order the removal of firefighters
  • WTC7 would be lost regardless

Happy to help.

Aha! There was no terrorist plot to crash planes into the building. The US government must have put a huge magnifying glass in space, which focused the sun's rays onto the towers, increasing the thermal expansion on them until they fell over!

INCORRECT. 7 years and you still think Larry ordered the pull out? How long have you been on this forum and you still misunderstand that CT? Larry was TOLD by the FDNY that the best thing to do was to pull it (the operation). Pretty understandable when you just lost 400 of your men and there are no lives at stake in the building which would have to be destroyed anyways. But you wouldn't understand.

Guys, don't let people sidetrack you into discussion of the extent of fire, or the 'pull it' nonsense. There are plenty of threads for those already.

Here's something on topic enough to address, though:
How many times are warnings given out because of first time in history events? What's the likelihood of it happening ever again when it’s never happened before and hasn't happened since?

HI, do you think that when any major event occurs, it should be ignored, and no lessons learned from it? And when you say 'hasn't happened since'... how long do you wait for that to be definable?

Surely the intelligent thing to do is to examine what happened, and investigate what was avoidable with the correct information? Building designs have evolved over centuries of such examinations, in attempts to make them as safe as possible with each new build. Do you disagree with those efforts?

When Hurricane Andrew hit Homestead in '92 it exposed major code issues in residential housing because of spotty construction standards. What happens if another Andrew hits and they don't correct such glaring errors?
