I have lots of stuff like exercise equipment along with other odds and ends that I want to sell. I am listing them with my local paper but I also want to list them online. I have been thinking about an ebay store but I would like some input from experienced folks. Craig's list is another option I guess. Any suggestions or ideas?

I'm a self employed person who mostly works out of the house and I have lots of spare time.

If you do Craigslist (or even the classifieds) I would recommend cash only.

If you can post a thread, you can sell on eBay - it's ridiculously easy but they charge upfront fees and a percentage of the sale. I think there's an old thread or two around here about selling on eBay if you do a search.

Craigslist is a complete waste except for large, heavy, or bulky things that need to be sold directly and hauled away in a truck.

What matters is what you are selling and how much you want to gain out of it.

And eventually it all comes down to how much time you want to spend packing things up and mailing them off. A few dozen items over weeks is easy, large quantities get to be a pain.

Just go register on eBay.

One of the tabs is "Sell" - click on it and it will guide you through the whole listing process.

They also have FAQ's and guides if you want to study it a little more.

Thanks!:)

I Already do know how to sell on E-bay, but I didn't make out very well in my one experience doing so.

It's somewhat more difficult at the start as a seller because you have no track record from successful transactions (i.e., no positive feedback).

Also, they had improved the selling process when I last sold off some items so that if you are listing an item similar to the previous one, you can jump through the listing in a more streamlined manner. If you have a lot of items you can also go through a "batch" process to list them.

My advice, and it is worth what you are paying for it, ;), is list similar items all at the same time and note in your listing that you have similar items listed. One interested party can then look through everything and the page-look-count is useful for getting the word out.

I've bought a few dozen things off of eBay in the last 5 years. Recently I looked into selling an Xbox 360 and a half a dozen games, separately. Assuming the buyer payed with PayPal, the posting, transaction and paypal fees would have taken about 11% of my total sales price. Ultimately, we were happy to sell it locally for a little less than what I estimated we would have netted through eBay. It was nice not having to open myself up to the risks involved. I've never been burned on eBay, but that just means I'm due.

I'll leave you with this account of scamming the eBay scammer.

I ran the online sales portion of a local shot here for about two years, selling around 50 items a week on Ebay. I found Ebay to be fairly easy to handle, with very few bad experiences in a total of thousands of listings. It's all pretty straight forward, but I guess it depends what you're selling.

You can sell bulky items on eBay, just list it as local pickup only no shipping. I sold a TV like this last winter. This, of course, works best if you live in a large metropolitan area, not so good if you're out in the sticks.
