Do Most Atheists Know that science..... Part 2

And exactly what makes you think that atheists actually have an absolute belief that God does not exist?

Well, he asked the straw man in the corner of his room, then stuck his hand up the back of it and made its lips move while he said "I have absolute belief that God does not exist" without moving his own lips.

Given all the evidence I've have seen I'm about 99.999 percent sure the tooth fairy doesn't exist. Although I believe John Lennon once said he wouldn't rule it out that they existed.

And as far as the comparisons of God to a tooth fairy, thousands of martyrs haven't died for a tooth fairy, the tooth fairy doesn't have a famous Oxford Professor praising the historical evidence about it. The tooth fairy doesn't have the greatest selling book of all time written about him. The tooth fairy doesn't get thousands of people off drugs and turn peoples' life around.

And thousands of martyrs have died for other faiths that you will no doubt claim are false beliefs. Why is martyrdom for Christianity special? What sets martyrdom for Christianity apart from martyrdom for Islam or Mormonism?

This is one of the things that drives me crazy about theist. Why do so many of them refuse to take credit for their own accomplishments? A book didn't get you off drugs. God didn't do it. YOU did it.

Now that the Olympics are going on you see this all the time. "I want to thank God for letting me win the gold". God didn't train for 4 years. YOU did. Take some credit!

I find it more infuriating that when things go wrong it was their fault, rather than God.

I have heard that the Tooth Fairy is indeed a man, someone who goes by the name Ronnie Loeberfeld in his day life.

From http://thislife.org/Radio_Episode.aspx?episode=188 :
Host Ira Glass talks with Rebecca, who, using perfectly valid evidence, arrived at the perfectly incorrect conclusion that her neighbor, Ronnie Loeberfeld, was the tooth fairy.

If you've got three minutes, you have to listen to the first three minutes of that program.

The whole martyr thing (whichever religion) is in itself profoundly depressing.

That Christian God is big on helping people score touchdowns, win awards, and get people off drugs-- though he does nothing as kids are wiped out by tsunamis, starve to death, and are diddled by the clergy.

Interesting god. What was he doing doing on 9-11 as the passengers in the airplanes were praying to him again? Oh yea, he was going by the name "Allah" on that day.

He denies all of that. He doesn't help athletes (except for Kobe, but that was such a "he said, she said" kind of thing, and he loves watching the kid play).

Exactly my point. DOC appears to believe that all atheists are strong atheists, which is patently untrue. In fact, strong atheism is pretty much logically indefensible. Which is why (from his own point of view) DOC is absolutely correct that (strong) atheism requires faith. I don't think anyone here is a strong atheist, nor is anyone else of my acquaintance.

I wonder if DOC yet realises that he has an incorrect perception of atheists?

List all the things I've said about science in this long thread that aren't true.

Scientists as little as 100 years ago believed the universe was eternal. But they now believe the universe had a definite beginning -- much like Genesis believes the universe had a definite beginning.

DOC: This is very true, ever hear of a guy named Einstein.

Water is converted to steam by natural forces, but natural forces didn't exist at the time of the Big Bang.

DOC: This is true, if it is wrong what were the natural forces that caused the Big Bang. Remember, time, space, and matter, didn't even exist yet.

So then I guess you believe we should trash science because it is based on the concept of cause and effect.

DOC: I still maintain useful science is based on the concept of cause and effect. For example just observing bacteria under a microscope is worthless without understanding the cause and effect those bacteria might have on other life. And of course medical research is nothing but cause and effect.

Just like they might have heard of abiogenesis but they don't know a leading (and from what I've seen, the main) scientific theory is that all life (plant and animals) came from the same bacteria organism.

DOC: This is true, if not what is the "leading" theory of abiogenesis and your source.

Our calender is based on the birth of Christ.

DOC: Ever hear of AD, BC (before Christ)

pi mason,

rho mason,

virtual W basons,

DOC: I didn't know listing terms that most people don't understand could be incorrect. Unless you believe most atheists understand the above words.

Hokulele's done a great job pointing out some of the things you’ve gotten wrong about science in this thread. I just want to emphasize two patently false notions you've repeated in spite of being repeatedly corrected, and which appear to be at the crux of your Big Bang ignorance...

Untruth 1:

Untruth 2:

Take those two false but oft repeated canards away, and what are you left with, DOC?

Just for kicks, a bonus flub...

Einstein had no problem accepting the Big Bang. The reason he put in his “fudge factor” was because there wasn’t a jot of evidence for an expanding universe when he first derived the equation.

I still maintain time had a beginning according to science. And if what you said about Einstein is true, why did he say using the constant {aka fudge factor} was the biggest regret of his career.

DOC has a point here. I'm an atheist, and I had no idea about the above words. Are they something to do with the Bible and Science?

Are they related in some way to pi mesons, rho mesons and W bosons?
