Well, in regards to the lip-syncing little girl, I doubt that one single Chinese was surprised by that, or even found it strange. It is pretty much the way its always done here. A beautiful voice, and a beautiful face.

I've read several articles on this in which people wrote about how terrible it was to not put the real girl on stage, just because she didn't look as pretty. But folks, I'll tell you something...had they put an average-looking girl up there, particularly one who looked nervous, it wouldn't have had anywhere near the same impact. The visual aspect, having that angelic-looking girl singing confidently with a sweet smile, was an important aspect of the performance. Its mercenary, and utilitarian...but it is also reality.

I thought so, but I was also distracted at how he seemed to be trying to push that little girl off her stool, particularly after she picked her nose.

Actually, the entire Olympic Games have been created by advance cgi programs. The athletes simply had their bodies scanned, and the computers then use that to create life-like models. All results of the competitions have been pre-determined. The athletes are, in fact, just sitting around drinking and talking with each other at the Olympic Village.

Yes, at least Ashley Simpson was lip-synching to her own voice on Saturday Night Live some years ago.

"You're looking at a cinematic device employed by Zhang Yimou here. This is actually almost animation."

Then later Bob Costas says (also from the above link):

"We said earlier that aspects of this opening ceremony are almost like cinema in real time. Well this is quite literally cinematic."

So the fireworks really happened, but they added in CGI ones for TV because they couldn't get them to come out right for the TV audience.

Based on what exactly? Do you have an example of live TV that has been infused with CGI? Keep in mind what the definition of "live TV" is.

And presidents write their own speeches. And the Oscar night is such a spontaneous event.

And talking heads know the script by heart, no way they could be reading in real time!

And when you see a dog or baby on TV, it's always the same, they're never substituted.

And live show on a CD? Can't be edited, man!

Well...seems I was not aware of the full situation regarding the little girl who did the lip-syncing. Turns out that, after the ceremony, the organizers publicly hailed her as a new singing sensation...they didn't just have her do a lip-synced performance at the Games, they engaged in intentional deceit after the Games also. And rather stupidly, I might add, considering how high the odds were that they'd get caught.

It is this aspect that is really getting Chinese angry...tons of online chatter, debate, and condemnation. Sadly, these two little girls are the ones caught in the middle of it.
