Genesis - Were Humans Ever Immortal

So how do you know that this is not the God of the literalists?

Well, someone who thinks the Bible is a literal piece of God's work, is ◊◊◊◊◊◊* crazy anyway. Even the Vatican does not claim that the Bible is a literal work, otherwise the Vatican would be burned down by now... :D

Talk about being daffy!

Since when has the Vatican been an exemplary paragon of Biblical exegesis? Since it stopped ordering and approving the Satanical ripping out tongues and gauging out eyes in order to force confessions?

That more simply said is that we are all potentially immortal, depending upon what steps we take and what choices me make.
Don't forget getting rid of the Thetans. That seems to be a requirement for immortality. (Or was that gullibility?)

Let's see--

The idea that Adam and Eve caused God's creation to malfunction in some way, that they threw his plans off course, or that God could not have known what they would do, is ridiculous.
In contrast with tales of a talking snake... yeah... riiiiiight...

It stands to reason that he placed the tree there
No

You seem to be confusing the word 'reason' with the word 'belief' - a mistake common among believers

Really? What about someone who claims that the white race is the one responsible for all earths problems because it is inherently inferior-is that person sane?

Really? And it wasn't burned down for all the atrocities it approved and instigated? How quaint!

Arguing with Literalists about whether God lied regarding the tree of knowledge of good and evil, since he said that "you will die" (Gen 3:3) if you eat from the tree.

I looked up the whole snake thing in the King Jame's last week. God didn't say "you will die" if you eat from this tree. What he actually said was "you will die this day". It's pretty clear from the passages that god was lying and the snake was telling the truth.

They way I read it, Adam and Eve would only have become immortal if they had eaten from the tree of life.

Another example of someone who feels qualified in isolating verses and giving the reading whatever meaning he thinks fits regardless of biblical context. Strange, I never felt myself qualified to contradict conclusions reached by Bible scholars. If I had a question-I asked. If I had difficulty in understanding a certain passage, I humbly requested an explanation. But plowing ahead with my own explanations and contradicting long-established conclusions with my own limited unqualified understanding never occurred to me as an honest or legitimate way to gain accurate knowledge. Perhaps because I approached the Bible with no preconceived notions-needs to garble, or atheistic prime directives to interfere with my understanding. Others, I guess, are not so fortunate.

felt, had, had, requested, occurred... all past-tense... was that deliberate? If so, please do explain

One man's ceiling is another man's flaw...

From my perspective, you appear unfortunately gullible and/or naive and/or conceited - insofar as you seem to think you are immune to 'preconceived notions'

atheistic prime directives
Please explain what you mean (sincerely, I don't understand)

Thanks. That helps a lot. I don't have or use the KJV, I was told to get a copy of the NRSV for school, and just stuck with that version.

So really what we see here is that God was lying when he said that they would die, because (at least in the KJV) the death would be rather instantaneous.

You still have to wonder how exactly the Literalists managed to come up with "humans were immortal to begin with", especially since it is clear that you had to eat from a second tree to become immortal.

I don't have or use the KJV

If you're on-line, then you have more versions than you can poke a stick at

Just for starters...

Yes.

Yes, too.

However: The topic still is Genesis/Immortality.

This is silly. One ignoramus misunderstands what he is reading proclaims to understand and another pretends to follow meakly like a blinded lamb. Naah! This is merely the well-known you pitch and I'll catch drivel. These persons know full-well what the biblical refutation of the silly conclusions are. They just pretend iugnorance in ordewr to deviate the subject away from thread immortality issue to the easily explained "yom" or "day" one in order to get off via heckling. Not on my computer screen!

Since YOU are the one making that unjustified unprovable claim against the white race, and defending it on another thread, and since most people who read your ridiculous accusations against the white race consider you insane, then I wonder how you have the gumption to come on this forum specifically with the intent of calling Christian fundamentalist crazy since those familiar with your racist views will consider it a bit weird coming from you.

I agree. It isn't Christian fundamentalist insanity is it?

One thread you're talking about is persiflage, oh, you didn't read it - the topic of THIS thread, on the other Hand is Genesis and Immortality. Believe me, it is .... once you collected a pile of "off-topic yellow cards".

So what is your disagreement about - regarding Genesis?

The thread I am referring to is very pertinant to your inititial insultant chosen modus operandi. The topic about the white race was the white race. Yet you were bombarded with personal insults-weren't you? To which you, understandably, didn't react too positively. So why gratuitously foist what you personally found offensive when directed at you on others? Furthermore, why expect your intended targets to simply accept your BS without saying a word when YOU imediately responded in self-defense when others targeted you as being insane because of your anti-caucasian philosophy.

BTW

Taking the high moral ground of wanting to keep threads on subject after purposefully deviating the thread via a well aimed insult comes accross as exceedingly hipocritical.

Thanks, man, I keep forgetting all of the little details. Do we need to lease a volcano, just in case?
