In it, he states
That the anti-Semite smear would also be freely tossed around outside the hallowed halls of JREF is something I find unsurprising. However, I have to take issue with Scheur when he says that "the time has come to simply ignore these folks' knee-jerk hurling of that epithet."
Continually ignoring smear merchants peddling their anti-Semitism fantasies right here at JREF strikes me as ill advised - I have not participated in this thread for no reason. However, the stakes in allowing the national discourse to be intimidated by similar smears are much greater. And frankly,
I anticipate that the losers resulting from not dealing effectively with such despicable tactics, with regard to the current crisis in the ME, will not just be Americans and Iranians, but also Israelis - the presumptive benefactors.
Is the most effective way to deal with these smears, in the national discourse, to "simply ignore these folks' knee-jerk hurling of that epithet."?
I think not.
