Male Strippers

So, I'm thinking of organizing a trip to see male strippers. I only got 1 person who seemed interested in the TAM activities forum, but I thought I'd post a seperate thread to see if I can get any more takers.

Also, I'm hoping someone out there can give me some advice as well. Which is better...Thunder from Down Under or Chippendales? Are their any "male revues" better than either of those in Las Vegas? I've never been to these shows, do they sell out ahead of time or am I pretty much safe waiting to buy the tickets when I get there for the show?

if anyone is interested, what would be a better night? Thursday or Friday?

Or, just bring a stack of dollar bills to the forum party and see what happens.

I am not going to TAM so it may be this is a derail, but may I ask why you want to do this? Serious question. :)

Or bring a couple of dozen doughnuts to the forum party. We'll see who can hold the most without using their hands.

Both are very entertaining, but I personally no longer patronize the shows at the Excalibur due to their support of Sylvia Browne. Maybe it is silly and pointless, but that's how I feel. The men in both are equally, well, impressive, so there is no real difference there. Neither show is very hardcore, that can be found at, er, other locations (Yes, I do know a few of those. No, I have only been once. Yes, it was with a group of girlfriends. No, my husband didn't mind.).

If you plan to see Chippendales, I would recommend Thursday, which is already fairly crowded on the TAM calendar, simply because the World Series of Poker is in town that weekend, and the Rio is home base for that event.

Seriously, I found Chippendales to be harmless fun, the men are nice to look at. If you go with a group of friends, the giggle fits last several days and to be honest, the giggle fits are a more lasting and enjoyable memory than the men.

I am sure various skepdudes at the TAM party would make a very pleasing alternative, but I am also sure they would be more, um, deflated by the extended giggle fits. ;)

my only suggestion is that if this is your first TAM, you may find that you don't want to plan a lot of evening activities.

There is the Forum party, and a skepchick PJ party (usually and it is NOT to be missed, trust me.). Then there are always groups of people going "OK who wants to go to that great Thai restaurant" - they don't mind if someone they don't know at all says "oh can I go?" The more the merrier. There is a Star Trek thing (I"ve never been but want to go before they close). Last time a younger group did a pub crawl (I didn't go as my daughter went).

I'm all up for a male stripper thing (usually it's just a chance for women to all get silly and have a lot of fun together).

BUT ---check out the forum welcome table. We won't be able to have it staffed all the time (it's may not be in the room with the speakers)....but anyone is welcome to post an activity.

I've found that most people aren't going to Vegas to do Vegas stuff. They are going to have what Randi once said was "well THIS is like our church", in other words lots of time with fellow skeptics. I mean, for many of us it's life changing the first time. To be with SO many people where you don't have to guard what you say (like at work, when your boss is a BIG Catholic and you really don't feel like having yet ANOTHER arguement with him about that grilled cheese Mary). I've met people I consider my best friends now at TAM.

It would be great if TAM were a week long! Instead there is barely time for all the socializing I have to do!! I'm feeling guilty about going to the Penn and Teller show! It's all about just being with so many amazing people (and THE most AMAZING person Randi).

For me it was life changing as I went from someone that admired Randi, to someone that now knows Randi as a friend. (my hint is as boring as it sounds, Volunteer! It's a great way to meet your newest best friends. And it's not boring and Randi sometimes pops in. Jeff and Hal and Linda and Alison...all the JREF regulars that make TAM happen - WOW - the best people in the world!)

Nothing wrong with male strippers. In fact the world needs more male strippers (keeps them out of trouble). And don't forget the lonely skepdudes! They react well to attention and have been known to buy a lonely girl a few drinks and maybe even dinner (hint hint).

The only problem with TAM, NOT ENOUGH TIME!

I'm up for this, assuming it doesn't conflict with the myriad of other evening events... but to Kitty's point, we're running out of nights and I don't want to overplan my evenings so we can be somewhat flexible.

I've never been to either of those shows. This is my first trip to Vegas without a male companion and I haven't wanted to force my husband to go see male strippers. I just thought it would be fun to jump up and down and giggle for a while...something fun and silly. My husband would go if I asked, but I know it isn't his cup of tea and I don't like making him do too much stuff that won't be any fun for him.

I thank all of you for your comments. It sounds like the activities list is more full than I realized. Plus, a male friend of mine reminded me of something I should have realized already...I'm over thinking my strategy. He told me, "If you want to see men take off their clothes, just ask...they'll do it."

you can always just say "hey who wants to see naked men?" to a bunch of skepchicks and if any say "well yeah I guess I'm in the mood for it" ....

well, skepdudes pants dropping like rain during monsoon season.

Heck they willl pay US to LET them take off their clothing.

That is a great idea and I wish I could go. I've been to see female strippers (in a dive bar) and have wanted to see male strippers just so I can say I've seen both. Unfortunately I already have plans for every night I'm there (P&T).

Can't wait to read the stories about it on the forum though. Have fun!

Guess you won't be staying at the Flamingo, then. ;)

a skepchick PJ party

When and where is that? I haven't seen any announcements, and it should be added to the spreadsheet.

Very true: Updated TAM6 Activities (spreadsheet)

Thanks, I did make an extra special effort with the buffet, and the blindfolded icebreaker games last year. Nice to know it's appreciated.
