So apparently Bob Barr is gearing up to declare his candidacy for President on the Libertarian ticket.

For those not familiar, while in office, Barr never saw a right-wing policy he didn't like; he was all about the evangelicals, he helped spearhead the Clinton impeachment, he hated gays (and was not afraid to say so), and even wanted the Pentagon to ban the practice of the Wiccan religion.

Then, once he was booted from office, he became a born-again Libertarian. Suddenly the Patriot Act (which he voted for) was evil, and where he once was firmly anti-drug, he now advocates "states rights" when it comes to medical marijuana.

Since Paul has ruled out running as an independent, what effect will Barr's candidacy have with the Ronulans?

They will all likely switch to Barr for the general.

We will see.

I don't know about the Ronulans, but I'm looking forward to seeing who is on the LP ticket. It never fails to entertain.

A significant portion of Paul's supporters will be put off by Barr's past bigotry. There are no "I didn't know about the newsletters" defenses here. He's a bigot. The hippie schmucks screaming about the war will be gone.

He may attract a few from the right who are not wanting to vote for McCain because he is such a lefty stooge...

Wasn't Bob Barr outed by Larry Flynt for being a hippocrite? Something about cheating on his wife?

I bet he gets 99.9% of the twoof movements support. Anti-semitism and bigotry don't seem to bother them much in a leader.

Barr is one of the few Libertarian candidates who have refused to sign a pledge for a new 9-11 investigation.

Libertarian candidates Mary Ruwart, Mike Gravel, Michael Jingozian, Daniel Imperato and Steve Kubby have already signed this current pledge by libertarians for Justice, a 9/11 Truth movement started by Jim Duensing, the state party LP chairmen for Nevada.

Libertarian Presidential Candidates Bob Barr, George Phillies, and Wayne Root have not signed the pledge.

I don't really see Barr hurting McCain that much; his position on the Iraq war is Obama's.

The moRons will not vote for Barr but will write in Ron Paul as his whole camping really is based on a cult of personality.

If the war is going to be the central issue of the campaign, McCain's going to get whupped anyway. It's not getting any more popular.

Nor would Ron Paul if he ran. They're not fishing from the same pool. If he is more anti-war than the Democratic nominee, however, he could get a few votes but Nader's probably the more natural choice for extreme anti-corporate lefty pacifists.

He is well loved by the ACLU. He is a peculiar duck. He once shot rifles at watermelons trying to prove something about the JFK assassination. I don't remember what he was trying to prove though. Barr is no factor in the race he has been gone too long and he was never any kind of force on the right. If the Dems want to attack McCain from the right then it will be some kind of deal with Chuck Hagel. If the GOP wants to attack Obama from the left then McCain should ask Hillary to be his VP. That would be earth shattering since Hillary would almost certainly be the candidate in 2012. I really believe that Hillary has an odd love hate relationship with the right. I know that I have found myself supporting her.

Some reactions to that would certainly be entertaining to watch. :D

I had forgotten that Barr made an appearance in the Borat movie. :D

As one of the managers of Bill Clinton's impeachment, Barr gained enough prominence to attempt a run for the Senate in 2002. But that effort fell apart at about the time Barr accidentally fired a .38-caliber pistol through a glass door at a fundraising reception.

As an elder statesmen, Barr returned to the public eye when, appearing in the film "Borat," he made a pinched expression after being told that the cheese he had just sampled came from a woman's breast milk.

Hillary's been attacking from the right, though.

Bob Barr? Bob Barr? This is the best and brightest of their party?

:dl:

I wonder if he will get more than ZERO percent of the vote, which seems to be the Libertarian norm.

Well, with people like Michael Badnarik and Neal Boortz, it's not like they have a lot to work with.

ETA: And in all fairness, he doesn't have the nom just yet. The Party selects their candidate at their convention in Denver in a couple weeks.

He'll still have to beat out Mike Gravel.
