Autism: No link to "leaky gut" hypothesis

For ages the antivaxers have been bemoaning the preponderance of epidemiological studies on autism, and wondering why more studies are not done on autistic kids. Well Wakefield tried, but produced a crock of **** for results.

Now some docs in London have studied autistics and controls, and guess what - there is no evidence of any "leaky gut", the hypothesis that supposedly underpins the MMR-autism link.

So what do the antivaxers do now more direct evidence is available?
Well here's Rosemary, one of my favourite jabbers:
This research DOES NOT prove a thing & of course is well timed to try to discredit any connection between the MMR jab & autism.
Note how yet again, every new study that seems to exonerate vaccines is regarded as being "well timed" in its publication to deliberately discredit the antivaxers. I smell conspiracy! With studies appearing thick and fast, you think the penny would eventually drop sometime that maybe there is no link with vaccines, and that maybe these studies keep appearing because people are publishing careful research and not just trying to make Wakefield look bad?

And here she is again......
Sadly what this actually means is that vaccine damaged children are being denied a proper & thorough medical investigation/diagnosis of whether they have 'leaky gut problems'
By denying that there is a connection between vaccines & 'leaky gut' & intestinal damage which is therefore not investigated properly by doctors results in these children NOT receiving or being offered the proper treatment that they DESERVE

As far as I am concerned & based on my own personal experience this is purely & simply MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE !

Well, duh. No amount of evidence will ever matter...unless of course it shows that VACCINATIONS IZ EVUL!

Sad as that may be. Thanks for the link to the study.

What do they mean by 'timing'? Did they release some information or studies that showed a connection, that this study counters?

Much of the UK antivaxer efforts have been concentrated on MMR and autism, and of course Dr Andrew Wakefield their poster boy who has been instrumental in provoking the whole kerfuffle.

Wakefield has been the subject of investigation - financial irregularities, unethical trial practice and so on, based upon his original work with autistic kids. He has been before the General Medical Council on a misconduct charge - this started last year, was adjourned, and is due to restart next month. The entire proceedings will take a year or more in total, knowing the speed at which the GMC operate.

During this time, research has continued to be published on autism, MMR, mercury etc by groups around the world, many of whom may not even be aware of Wakefield and the GMC.

The antivaxers here see medical conspiracy behind every publication. Every one is presumed to be specifically "timed" to try and deliberately discredit Wakefield in some way - so this latest study must have been released on purpose 2 weeks before the GMC business resumes, just to create bad publicity for him.

If they can't blame vaccines, they have to blame themselves (unrealistically, but doesn't stop it). They want someone to be at fault - the major legal problem in the US. Nothing can just happen, it has to be someone else's fault.
(I vote god)!!!

Seconded.

I just interviewed with a lady that didn't get her kid vaccinated until the kid was 5. This after an injury, so she got the kid DTP. No MMR, ever, I guess for reasons in the OP.

She says her kid got sick the first time in the kid's life after getting the vaccine. Can you imagine? A kid NEVER getting sick, ever, until getting a vaccine? The lady's husband is a chiropractor. She went on to say she found my biological science education background on my resume "interesting". I had been hoping she would find my past office/bookkeeping work experience more interesting.

I had brought a portfolio that included my published letter to the local paper that took apart a local antivaccinator's misinformation that was spamming the local paper with letters a few years back. I kind of showed it to her.

I don't think I can count on getting that accounts payable/accounts receivable job now.

Should I email her the OP link and information? :p

I hope you were as forthright with her as you are with me.:D

Well, I'm sure my letter said it all. Yep, I'm so disgusted by this antivaccine stuff that it is now interfering with me getting a job. I'll be a street lady soon, with a whisky bottle and mumbling under my breath how there has never been mercury in MMR, and how MMR also didn't cause autism any other way.

BTW, any skeptics hiring office staff in Canada? I'm broke...

:boggled:
