Yeah, that was exactly what I was getting at. You want legal prostitution? Go to a state where its legal. Want it legal in your state? Start a campaign.
To be fair, I don't see anyone suggesting any more than that. I certainly don't see anyone arguing for a federal statute that prohibits the states from making prostitution illegal.
As a wise and learned man, Sir George of Carlin, once asked:
"Selling is legal. ****ing is legal. So why isn't selling ****ing legal?"
Or drive it underground. Or drive it to states that don't tax it. Think New "Live Free or Die" Hampshire, with no sales tax. Or Texas, with no income tax. Nevada only taxes it at the local level - no sales tax (and, of course, the pros pay their income tax).I think the government is missing a golden opportunity here. If they were to make prostitution legal and safe and then tax the holy bejesus out of it (the ultimate sin tax), they might make a fair amount of revenue off of it.
It's like legalizing gambling, I don't know but I feel there's something wrong about the government profiting from questionable behaviour.
What makes it questionable?
Do I really need to point it out to you?

I have an idea what you might find questionable about it but didn't want to make any assumptions.
ETA: So, to answer your question, unless you want me to assume your position is based in irrationality, yes, you need to point it out to me.
There's nothing questionable about it. Adults should be allowed to spend their money on whatever they like as long as it does not hurt anyone else. By making these things legal it actually makes things better for everyone. The odds for gambling in Vegas are much much better than playing in a state lottery. It's not the government profiting from questionable behaviour that is the problem, it's when they choose to hold a monopoly on it that makes it unfair.

Should the poverty and trafficking that force women to become prostitutes be legal?
