Are you referring to that old rule that a true Blues singer must have a name that is 1. a disability 2. a fruit and 3. a president's last name? Or course, Blind Lemon Pledge violated the rule, but got away with it.

Paterson actually made that joke when he was first selected by Spitzer to be on the ticket. A reporter asked him how it felt that he could be the State's first black and blind Lieutenant Governor and he joked "I'm black?!"

To be more exact, it appears there used to be a woman there, and a marriage that for a time looked like it was headed to the rocks. What there definitely is is a blind black guy giving a lesson to any aspiring politician in how to handle revelations like this.
 
Actually, it now looks like there used to be women there, and an official site for assignations (a hotel at 94th and B'way, which must be feeling pretty smug now). Look, I'm OK with this. It beats either Spitzer's arrangements, or what went on in Detroit. But then I believe the whole purpose of politics is to provide material for ongoing, entertaining, public soap operas.
