I don't know if anybody here watches the TV series "New Amsterdam" - it only started a couple weeks ago and it's on Fox (*shudder*) here in the US. It's essentially a show about an NYPD detective that happens to be immortal and centuries old.

Anyway, I was very proud of last night's episode. The murder victim in that episode was a former practitioner of Recovered Memory Therapy who had realized she was actually causing False Memory Syndrome in her patients. It is repeated throughout the episode that RMT is woo, and that it's easy for someone to accidentally implant false memories in people (the main character actually does this during an interrogation, and realizes it later).

In general, I'd just like to give some props to the writers/producers/etc. for the show, tackling what can be a sensitive issue and exposing these woo-woo practitioners for what they are - (usually well-meaning and accidental) charlatans.

I haven't missed an episode yet (okay, there's only been three of them), but I get to watch it on Global instead of FOX. I don't know if that's much better, but at least I don't have to watch three or four ads telling me to join the army in a single episode.

It was a good episode.

The lead role, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, is Danish. :)
Yes- the producers assumed that the viewers a) couldn't tell a Danish accent from a Dutch one (well, they're probably correct in that, since his accent is very slight), and b) would accept that after living in New York for 350 years, he'd still carry a trace of a Dutch accent.

What is effective, in that regard? When is the invasion planned?

Otherwise, I'll have to give this show a try.

ETA: my bolding.

The Wikipedia article says there will probably only be seven episodes, so maybe it's pointless to start watching it. Anyway, I've seen all the episodes so far, and I think the show is OK. But the story is kind of stupid. He's not immortal because he's some kind of freak of nature or an alien or something like that. He's immortal because some native americans that he met when he was about 30 decided to make him immortal in some kind of magic ritual. They also made sure that he will stop being immortal when he finds his one true love. *Vomits*

I really liked that stuff about recovered memories though.
