TAM6 - what do you look like?

I've always had female roommates for Amaz!ng functions and the double entendre has been a running gag.
Ok, well, as long as that's the only kind of gag involved. ;)

Since we're talking Vegas, I see your double entendre and raise you a triple. :D

I am jealous of everyone going to TAM6. I will be missing out on all the hot mess action. :(

I just found out that a former colleague, who I didn't even think knew about JREF, will be attending TAM6.

And I won't. Haven't ever in the past, and can't afford it for the forseeable future.

I am so ^%^%&&#^@ing jealous.

I'm thinking I'll go around pretending to be deaf for the next year so I can sell some of those bead bracelets and maybe make enough money to get to Tam7. I'd do it the legit way, but around here if I went around knocking on people's door raising money in the name of atheism and the skeptic movement they'd release the gators on me.

I'm not really going to pose as a deaf person, you know. That'd be wrong. I've got a dog and some sunglasses so it would be much more fitting to pose as a blind girl.

Hey, Kate, how about you and I go around dressed as a rabbi and a pregnant nun? People would either

a) pay us out of pity and charity, or

b) pay us for providing them with a good laugh, or

c) pay us to go away.

Two comments. This is a photo thread to more pickies, less talkies, and:

You guys do know that there is a scholarship, right?

And I won't. Haven't ever in the past, and can't afford it for the forseeable future.

The scholarships are all well and good, but don't forget the power of direct appeals. If you can handle registration and find a roomie, but need $350 to cover airfare contact Hutch. If you have freequent flyer miles and can pay for registration, but can't cover hotel costs, see the roomies thread or start your own. If you can cover registration, airfare and hotel, but are worried about incidentals - forget about that and go... you will be fed, taxied and provided caffine/booze by others.

I, myself, have about a $1000 I'm willing to commit to people who just need a bit extra to attend and that goes for long timers or newbies.

It's really amaz!ng to see how willing and ready people are to come together for each other here. :) I have precisely zero dollars to go towards this at the moment (I still have medical bills to pay off, actually :( ) but for TAM7 I may try my hand at selling photos or other crafts on an e-bay store. If I can drag myself along most of the way I'll feel much better about it. :)

Kate, this is the way JREF works. People like US and Hutch help out and the rest of us chuck a few dollars where we can. If you can cover the air fare, you can probably share a room (with a bit of luck that's free), get a scholarship (free registration) and remember breakfast and lunch is free as well. All of a sudden it don't seem so costly, does it?

Exactly. I have had a fellow forumite by my roomie for TAM2 and as noted above have paid for HCMom to be my cabinmate on TAA2. There's a pervasive "pay it forward" atitude amongst JREFers and while we've seen it in a number of instances, TAM is where it really manifests. If it's only a couple of hundred bucks that stands between someone being able to make it and reading posts from home... just ask and we'll make sure you're there.

Also, if costs are the only prohibiting factor, might I recommend staying in a hostel instead? My accomodation is going to be around the $20 per day mark (with free breakfast).

There are hostels in Las Vegas????

Are you sure that's what they REALLY are?

:D

Anything more than 4 walls and a bed is purely a bonus to me.

.... well, almost anything...

Kate, as awkward as it may seem to say yes to offers of help, people here really do mean it. I have done WORLDS more than I ever would dream I could do because of the generosity of forum members, and while I can never begin to really "repay" what I've received, there are plenty of chances to help others with $20-$30 here and there, so that you get to feel like you're doing your part whenever you can.
