Come Up With A Good Question to Ask John McCain

As far as I know...

The embryos used for the study of stem cells are from fertility clinics. No one in the United States creates embryos for the purpose of extracting stem cells. They are all destined for the dumpster regardless.
If that is true, than I take back my reservations about the way most embroyonic stem cell research is currently handled. I was under the impression however that many of the large commercial labs like to create their own.

I'll try to look into it when I have time, although I think that would be hard to verify either way.

I would still like to hear what McCain has to say on the subject though.

Sen. McCain...
...what is your opinion of the upcoming Russian elections?
...what is your opinion of the upcoming elections in Pakistan, and Musharraf's disolution of the Supreme court there to, in essence, guarantee his re-electability?
...how will Russia's/Pakistan's recent back-pedaling from open and transparent democratic elections affect the US's relationship with them?

"How do you justify voting to extend the Patriot Act?

Specifically how do you justify voting to suspend habeas corpus? *
How do you justify voting to wiretap without obtaining a warrent first?"

My opinion on the matter can be summarized by --

"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." David Hume, but often misattributed to Benjamin Franklin.

Terrorists no longer have to bother on planning how to attack us. The Republicans are doing a grand job of attacking our democratic freedoms entirely on their own, without their help.

* Note: In practical terms if habeus corpus is suspended than the govt can hold whoever they like for us long as they like without pressing charges. This means that the person being held never has the opportunity to go to trial and defend themselves and then obtain their freedom.

Ask him anything related to the 'ALL IMPORTANT' economic issues that we are sure to face if we say in the ME.

Then proceed to watch him to sit there with a deer-in-the-headlights blank stare and stumble over the question with a bunch of BS.

Also ask him if he realizes that the economic downfall of our once Great Country is a direct result of the war in Iraq?

Follow up with, if he knows the difference between 'straight talk' and 'double talk'.

NO NO! You see, like the RP haters here at JREF, if you bring up old de jure rules of law, issues like basic freedoms and the Constitution and habeas corpus, your pretty much labeled a whacko and nutjob....scratch that line of questions.

To quote Bill Hicks, "Don't worry people, your government (and media) is in complete control. Go back to sleep"

I have been fortunate enough to be invited to regular blogger conference calls (about a dozen so far) with Senator John McCain, who now looks extremely likely to be the Republican nominee for President of the United States. The way these work is that maybe 10-20 bloggers dial into a conference call. The senator will typically get on the line and make a brief statement regarding current events, perhaps discuss a piece of pending legislation. After that it is thrown open for questions. You punch *1 to get in the queue to ask a question, and the operator will go through the queue, opening up one line at a time.

It is of course a thrilling experience to be able to ask a man who is very close to being the leader of the most powerful nation on earth a question, person to person. I hope I have handled the responsibility well in the past, but respect my fellow JREF Forum members and would like to solicit your advice on a possible question to ask for the future.

Some things to keep in mind:

1. The senator generally does not like questions about his opponents, although this may change now that he seems to be the presumptive nominee and his opponents will become Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

2. In general, answers to questions about his positions on issue X (abortion, Iraq, immigration) are well-known and can be gleaned from his website.

3. The best questions discuss current events that interact with major issues. Of course, these topical questions can get stale quickly. The blogger calls usually happen ever two weeks or so, and I seldom get more than 24 hours' notice. So you may come up with a terrific question and I don't get the chance to interact with Senator McCain for a week and it's no longer worth asking.

4. Senator McCain appears to like the "inside baseball" questions about politics. A question he particularly liked of mine last year was when I asked him to look at the electoral college map from 2004 and tell me what states he thought he could turn from blue (Democrats) to red (Republicans).

5. Feel free to submit joke questions or hostile questions; don't expect me to ask them.

Ask him a question about Gaza and the plight of the Palestinians being locked up into one of the world’s largest concentration camps.

ask him if he is sorry for his racist remark a few years ago

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/opinion/hongop.shtml

it starts..."On his campaign bus recently, Sen. John McCain told reporters, "I hated the gooks. I will hate them as long as I live." Although McCain said he was referring only to his prison guards, there are many reasons why his use of the word "gook" is offensive and alarming."

Perhaps this is why he is so keen on bombing non whites.

He was also keen on going to war against the Serbs. Remember he wanted to stage an American force in Hungary and march it into Serbia, of course with more bombing along the way. McCain is a warmonger: pure and simple.

You supported and actively endorsed Arizona proposition 107 in 2006. (it was defeated despite your support).

Door #1 would have resulted in eliminating existing state benefits to any couple who was not legally married, even if they were already receiving benefits.

Door #2 would support an alternate position that stripped sexual requirements completely from state, city, and county beneficiary status. This would surely have required increased taxes to support the masses of additional beneficiaries.

Door #3 (most likely) would have been long and costly lawsuits by state employees whose children and partners would lose existing benefits, where we the taxpayers would foot the bill for a misguided 'The Center for Arizona Policy' religion inspired marriage agenda.

How does that make you a moderate Republican? And curious Arizonans want to know, if 107 had passed, would you be sticking around to clean up the mess you endorsed?

Have you been called "the singbird" in the POW camp?

I was so bored this morning that I went to one of the German moRon-blog to see how the latest hit piece of "Dr Paul" (the latest statement) has hit the woo market over here and ended up getting a hit piece of prisonplanet instead:

"I know a lot of Vietnam veterans and a few POW's and all the POW's that I've talked to over the years say that John McCain is a lying skunk," McLamb told the Alex Jones Show.

According to wooplanet, McLamb is a "A former Vietnam veteran with top secret clearance". Yea. Now, what made me ponder is this:

Doubts over McCain's alleged war hero status and his support to curtail efforts to look for missing POW's contributed to torpedoing his presidential campaign in 2000 and those same questions will undoubtedly surface again should the Senator win the Republican nomination.

I haven't indulged myself in the question "has he or has not been tortured", but has this played a major role in him loosing to Bush in the 2000 primaries?

Not "non whites" but specifically a subset of the larger set known as Vietnamese.

You, sir, are in need of grasping the term "in context" and a bit of history.

Gook was a bit of a carryover into the Viet Nam war from the Korean war.

Senator McCain, eight years ago you called the more extreme conservatives in your party "agents of intolerance." Today, you're trying to convince them you're one of them.

What changed?

Ask him a question about Gaza and the plight of the Palestinians being locked up into one of the world’s largest concentration camps.

The Palestinians would not appreciate your calling the Gaza Strip "large."
I would also speculate that the Palestinians are more well-armed and able to attack their enemies than, say, Anne Frank.

It's all relative, is it not?

Metaphors flounder when you start comparing apples to oranges.

And, let's be honest. One would not frame a question like that to the senator. One might ask, "Could you tell us your plan to get the Palestinians and Israelis to live peacefully side by side?"

The erroneous term "concentration camp" is flirting with Godwin's Law.

Could you please explain why it is the responsibility American president using the American peoples wealth to "get the Palestinians and Israelis to live peacefully"?
