Pearls of wisdom from an Indigo Child

From that same Q&A with young Mr Mannion:

"Anything mentioned by me is MY OPINION. I do not medically claim anything and do not state that what I say is correct."

Wouldn't you think that as a representative of the next level of humanity Gary would at least have the courage of his convictions?

I have seen "psychic surgery" performed by a magician/debunker, and it looks surprisingly (and frighteningly) real. The one problem that came up was that one of the "surgery" volunteers from the audience turned out to be very ticklish, so his "surgery" did not go well.

Wow. Just wow. From Gary Mannion's website:

I have also now started doing physical mediumship in which spirit have lifted tables off the floor, answered questions through a series of knocks and even tapped out well known theme songs.

(Emphasis mine; spelling and grammar his.)

Great to know those spirits can be such a use to mankind! Nothing like going to a psychic and listening to "Bonanza" being tapped out under the table.

I wonder if he can cure sore knuckles?

Yabbut, it's pretty obvious from the point you made that, if you know that the rubes you're ripping off have even less than a clue than yourself, it doesn't matter. Oh and throw in quantum for good measure.

What's the old saying?
"The only thing you need to know to train a dog is, more than the dog"

Sometimes, it also works if you say something they know isn't true - but they prefer to believe it because it is wackier than what they could come up with themselves.

Wow, I've never heard of this "indigo" child lunacy before. From the descriptions, and Gary's own "definition", it seems to be more indicative of narcissism than anything else. I also discern a serious lack of education indicated by Gary's presentation; this is really the deep end of the woo-woo pool.

Gary will be giving "a demonstration of psychic surgery" at St James' Church, Piccadilly, this evening. I've just heard that "half Goldsmiths College psychology department will be heading down there", so hopefully Gary won't be playing to an audience composed entirely of credophiles. :)

Sorry, too far away to go along for the laughs, but I have to say, that is the cutest avatar ever!

Thanks, Big Les! Your T Rex is rather nice too...

I wonder how young Gary is getting on? He'll have been "operating" (via his spiritual guide Abraham, of course) for just over half an hour now. I hear that some people from the Psychology department of Goldsmiths College will be there so at least he won't be dealing with with an audience composed entirely of credophiles. :) I'm looking forward to hearing the feedback from this event.

I'm a felinophile but I don't object to SMALL spiders. My rule of thumb is "If you can see the hairs on a spider's leg it's too big to be cute".

Not that I believe in Indigo Children, but just because this kid says stupid things doesn't discount other children as being indigo children. Also, since when are indigo children supposed to have perfect spelling, or some universal special insight into humanity?

My understanding is that Indigo Children have one or more special gifts of some sort. Doesn't mean they are infaliable.

Does that mean that a kid with any "special gift" is really an Indigo Child?

If not, how do we tell the difference? Look at their auras?

No, but the fact that all of them say stupid things and, more importantly, can't actually do anything they claim, does tend to discount it.

Also, since when are indigo children supposed to have perfect spelling

Since spellcheckers were invented.

or some universal special insight into humanity?

That's pretty much the whole point. If they don't have some special insight, then there isn't actually anything special about them at all.

Well, Gary's "demonstration of psychic surgery" last night didn't exactly set the world on fire. A gentleman who posts regularly on UK-Skeptics and BadPsychics recorded the whole thing...

...as a result of which I can now provide you all with yet more pearls of wisdom from an Indigo Child:

Soya milk and goats’ milk are high in oestrogen, which can cause breast cancer.

Microwave cookers kill germs but also everything in the food.

The oranges we buy in the shops are injected with arsenic.

Sea-salt has some truly extraordinary properties – Mannion claims that in America a dog was drained of its blood, transfused with sea water and went on to live for 9 years. :jaw-dropp

Blue algae is good for Alzheimer’s

Mozart and Einstein were “Indigos”.

People can be healed merely by being in the same building as Gary.

He recommended another "psychic surgeon" - John of God!

Throughout the 1 1/4 hours the presentation lasted he repeatedly said “just my opinion”, or words to that effect.

Oh, and during the show Mannion said he works with GPs but is unable to name them for professional reasons. He repeated his by now familiar claim to have worked with obstetrician-to-the-stars Dr Gowri Motha, who has yet to reply to many e-mails asking for confirmation of this. Mannion also mentioned Manesh Naidoo, supposedly Head Physiotherapist at London's Northwick Park Hospital, who either does not exist or has had his/her name misspelled or misremembered by Mannion.

All of which inclines me to believe that Mannion is genuinely self-deluded, not that it makes him any less dangerous. However, things hotted up towards the end of the evening when Professor Chris French of Goldsmiths College Anomalistic Psychology Research Unit got up to speak:

"It was in the last 5 mins that Prof French got onto the microphone - he was quite irate - and challenged Gary about his claims. He asked Gary if he would agree to having his claims tested, and Gary agreed - in public, in front of approx 250 people."

Mannion had already said he's in favour of of a new law coming into force in April protecting customers from fraud, so he has no excuse to back out now!
