Please.

Lest I go green with envy because of TAM 5.5 and because I want to meet for the first time and meet again the awesome people of this forum, I DEMAND further details on TAM6.

Yeah, Jeff, I'm looking at you. I could even hug you but, for now, there's only my hurt pride to meet.

I just found this "cheap" ticket at Continental, at only $1,100. When I went to Vegas in 2005 the cheapest was $1,400! So, at the very least, I need to know if the dates are confirmed. The penalty fee for changes is $250. So no way!

I'm interested in knowing who the speakers will be, of course, but that's secondary to meeting the folks here. Sooooo??

While partying at 5.5, I'd swear I'd heard a rumor that a certain Oxford don will be visiting TAM once again.

I was at TAM4 but had to skip TAM5 and 5.5 -- it's great to see that TAM6 will be in the summer, as that'll make it easier for me to attend since I'm a teacher. I assume it'll be in Vegas this summer? Does anyone know if the summer meeting is going to be a regular thing?

Per this - http://www.internationalskeptics.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=3368835#post3368835

We should be getting details this week.

I'm also anxious for details. Not sure I can swing the trip, but I'm gonna try.

OH YEAH??! Jeff I'm looking at you. Yoooou, yes you!

Wow, that would be spectacular. I've seen him once and I was flabbergasted.

Thursday June 19th, to Sunday the 22nd.

So I'll buy the ticket tomorrow! Not now because Im lazy.

I will be there!!!!!

That's a GREAT detail!!

I'm sure they're trying it out, so let's how successful this will be.

I certainly hope it is successful, as I think regular summer meetings could be a HUGE draw for a lot of science teachers, both at the high school & college level.

On a related note, I went looking for the temperatures in Vegas in June, and look what I found, here:

Las Vegas boasts of some of the lowest relative humidities in the USA, averaging about 11% on June afternoons.

According to Andy Gorelow, meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Las Vegas, "In my 7 years in Las Vegas, the lowest relative humidity (RH) reading I've seen occurred this past June, when the ASOS (Automated Surface Observing System) at McCarran reached 2%. I have seen several days in a row with RH values between 3-5%, which is relatively common...especially just before monsoon season."

Man oh man.

I've been thinking of TAM 6 a lot - I hope I can go. Hubby is really sick and I can't make any advance plans, but there is time...so, I will need details just in case! :)

Noblecaboose and I have saved for this one and will be purchasing plane tickets shortly.

On the subject of Las Vegas relative humidity....

I spoke recently with a former Las Vegas resident, and asked whether the summers were bearable because the humidity was low. The former resident replied that, in certain areas of Las Vegas, the humidity is very high (and when the temperatures are high, the discomfort can be extreme). The high humidity, he said, was due to a large number of hotels/resorts installing water-based recreation: swimming pools, fountains, artificial lakes, etc.

The amount of water in these attractions that is lost due to evaporation is staggering.

Whether this is true or not, I do not know. I only say that if I go to Las Vegas in mid-June and find that there is unpleasant humidity around the Strip, I will not be surprised.

My understanding was, the whole point of moving it was to try to get more teachers to attend, so I'm sure they'll be encouraging folks like you quite a lot.

By the way, my trip to TAM6 will be a birthday present ... to myself.

Which reminds me: there are two possible TAM-based egg-related activities. The first is to have a mass egg-balance on the first day of summer (yes, I know the magical day is supposed to be the vernal equinox, but TAM isn't being held in March), followed by an egg fry on on piece of sheet metal out in the sun.

I can also mention that the TAM6 crossword puzzle is "under construction." The current plan is to have a 21 by 21 grid, with a puzzle within a puzzle, plus a subtle surprise that ought to delight--or annoy--English speakers from both sides of the Atlantic.

I love this!! I'm in.

Although the egg fry is somewhat anti-social. The smell of several dozen eggs frying is not going to get the skeptics a good reputation.

*awaits pithy responses*

I wonder if there will be a buy-in Hold 'Em tourny like last time...

This is excellent news. I want to really work to get a bunch of teachers together in a workshop of some kind. This is gonna be groovy!
