Perpetual Motion Device. On the ORBO forums.

You pretty much covered it, ZamuBa, though I think it's more correct to state it the other way:

The clacking sound of two billiard balls colliding indicates that some energy is lost to vibration.

(I didn't realize you were confused. I thought you were intentionally over-explaining the joke for comedic effect, or something)

My time as an undergraduate predates the web.
Wow...you're from the Land Before Time? (sorry...I could not resist, though if any consulation so am I *lol*)

ETA: As we are talking about devices that generate energy, I saw this and thought it interesting; from the inventor of the "Super Soaker" squirt gun...the Johnson Thermoelectric Energy Conversion system, capabale of 60% efficiency.

it strikes me as silly, to allow any machinery or devices that will eventually wear out, into the quest for perpetual motion machines.

most of the attempts require gizmology that wouldn't last outside. They require a shelter from corrosive forces. Coddling the free energy system requires energy input, as well as the initial set-up. To discount this factor violates some law of thermodynamics.

If I cared about the woo-quest of a perpetual motion machine, here's mine:

A high pressure tank is filled with a mix of water and non-polar solvent.
It is kept in a shed, away from any sunlight, to make sure there is no cheating.
The shed is located in an area known for nigtly sub-freezing temps and day-time warmth; perhaps a high desert near the equator.

As the water in the tank expands, due to the sub-freezing ambient temp, the solvent, still liquid, is forced out of the tank through a hydraulic hose; lifting a weight.
Later, water thaws; space is available; weight falls down. Some token sign of power is extracted as the weight comes back down.

what's the rub with that? it could cycle for along time, with design tweaking.

anyway, the perpetual motion machine is too expensive. that's what i don't like about it.

Your system runs on thermal energy from the environment, so it does not count.

So I don't care if it goes forever, but these would bring a lot more desk joy than a newton's cradle... when is someone else going to make one? Has anyone else already tried?

I have some engineering friends working on this project now based on my reading of this thread and my sharing the information with them. I will update their progress from time to time. Currently they have about 80% of the needed parts. They are incredibly excited!

Very cool if this is real !
Ive tinkered with magnets myself for a few years I never got anywhere with it .
Good thing about it is they messed up and showed me a picture of it I have all the parts I need on hand to build one .
Mine will be stainless steel though so it will last forever .

Nice, I honestly hope it works... It seems cool even if it doesn't run much longer than a youtube video. I'm in for buying 3 of them at least, just hoping for a video that isn't the one already posted, please keep us updated on your friends.

There was a hillarious thread on the steorn forums where nearly everyone was trying to explain to, what I can only presume was a troll, that the SMOT(more accurately called SMUT) is not overunity for about 100 pages.

You saw it here first people free energy is stupid !
That must have took a lot of brain power to come to that conclusion !

The thing that amazes me more, CF, is no matter how many times you are proven wrong, you still come back for more.

OK, here's a question CF: when this "free energy" device is proven not to actually produce "free energy", like every other "free energy" device before it, what will your reaction be? Will you ultimately realise that your view of the world is perhaps a little skewed, or will you continue to mouth off like a retarded 4 year old?

Yes, "free energy" is stupid.

I have great idea for of free enegry devices you get a big rectagnular panel put it in sun and make electircity come out the other side since they use in space why not at my hojuse no magentes never ware out why bother with something that wont work when we have thjis fee enegry technolorgy already?

When satire becomes indistinguishable from actual crazy-talk...

Its NOT FREE ENERGY!!!! you are CONTRIBUTING TO THE DEATH OF OUR SUN! STOP SUCKING ALL THE ENERGY OUT OF IT!!!!
