As many of you know, we have been inundated with CTers lately come here to with their "just asking questions" smoke screen.

Normally I relish the chance to debate these people (and see the rest of you debate them) and watch their sad, little arguments crumble.

However, we seem to have contracted a new strain of CTer, more virulent and tenacious than any previous incarnations.

This new strain seems to delight in ignoring their own contradictions and inconsistencies, and any inconvenient counter arguments and direct questions. They simply post and repost the same baseless assertions over and over again.

The likes of Miragememories, LostChild, thewholesoul, and lisabob2 have basically resorted to sticking their fingers in their ears and singing "La La La!" over everything we say. We have made points, provided evidence, and asked questions, and they refuse to acknowledge them.

So my proposition is this: Until these CTers give up their puerile and ridiculous debate tactics and agree to engage in an honest discussion, let's just simply stop responding to them. Nothing can be gained by continuing as we have been.

Please post in this thread to show your support and willingness to participate.

I just put them on ignore. Makes it easier to ignore them, and the juvenile tactics. Also, it helps with not getting any gray hairs because its one less thing to get angry over.
 
But who will I make fun of? You guys aren't any fun, with your logic and stuff that makes sense. Plus, NWO Kitty threatened to shoot me if I pranked him again!

From the thread title, I thought the OP was going to suggest that truthers eat their young – a capital idea!

I heartily agree with Johnny Karate. I keep the kooks on a very short leash these days. The hardcore are only in it to sustain their fantasies, and we're enabling them by engaging with them beyond their ability to reason.

I make an exception for people like realcddeal and Heiwa, who claim to have some relevant expertise. I think there's value in showing the world how incompetent and delusional they are.
 
Good luck with your boycott. We tried that with Christophera - who makes the current crop look sane - and the thread went further on for thousands (literally) more posts. Only Chris' self-immolation killed it.
 
It's both frustrating and, I'm not ashamed to admit, fun watching CTist after CTist come and repeat the same nonsense over and over. The fun part is trying to predict what type of CTists they are, how they will react, how they will evolve (if at all) and ultimately how they depart.

There are some however that, after it's apparent they are only interested in reprising a role from the Pyhon's argument clinic, probably should be left alone to shout breathless into an empty canyon. I'd put posters like LC/zensmack/redibis/mm/lisa in that category. Others like borfors and Christophera are ill and out of respect should be ignored.

I don't usually participate in the CT threads. That said, there are plenty of other woos who do the same thing (DOC and mayday come to mind). The purpose of responding to them is not to get them to change their minds but to make it clear how ridiculous their arguments are to others who may be reading them, even if it's just links to the nine previous threads where the same claim was debunked before. Otherwise, someone may get the idea that it's not being refuted because it can't be. From the perspective of someone doing a google search on the particular argument and finding one of the many threads making the claim, seven posts saying "yes, you've said that before and have yet to respond to these flaws in your theory..." can go a long way to discrediting the argument to someone who hasn't heard it before much better than silence will.

I look at it this way: the crap still has to be cleaned up no matter how big a pile it is or how often the dog leaves it. Or someone's going to step in it and track it all over the house.

I think it's an unwritten rule on JREF that no troll will starve. I'm not so sure it's a bad one.

the plan is flawed, most conspiracy theorists have no offspring for obvious reasons, the few that do have children lost the, when their wives left them

slightly modified (and modester?) proposal: truthers eat eachother, because its the only way they can be sure they arent getting fluoridated by the nWo

It's a two way street, some here post on CT forums, some of them post here. You can lead a horse to water.....Saying what you believe to be true, whether it is or not, is what people do. If people refute or contradict it, keep repeating it ad infinitum.
It also seems that getting a rise out of people is amusing to some. Maybe that's why they keep it up.
 
Here's a thought. As I've pointed out in the Religion & Philosophy section, logical debate only works on people who are already inclined to think logically, and polite discourse is wasted on people who would never show you the same in return. Ignoring them may not exactly work either, for reasons that have already been mentioned. Therefore the best approach when dealing with people like that is to mock them. When you're making fun of them, your target audience is other skeptics, not the truthers themselves. You can still make your arguments just as well with mockery.

Besides, if they're just here to stir up trouble and draw attention to themselves for fun, you might as well have some fun at their expense.
