The real conspiracy is a successful one - getting Upper Canadians convinced that one of their own is an Albertan and that SWO isn't already the 51st state.

I miss Chretien. No, I never voted for him, but compared to the politicians we have right now in Ottawa, Chretien was a king. The guy had balls of steel, and even if he sometimes looked like a moron, he was in the end a pretty good leader.

Just for not joining the US in Iraq, he deserves respect. At the time, not agreeing with our US neighbor was considered the height of arrogance.
 
There's nothing we could have done anyways. We already had pretty much all our troops invested in Afghanistan. It wasn't such a brave move, it was more of a no-brainer.

I believe that part of Jean's rationale for going to Afghanistan was to be able to say to the US that Canada did not have the resources to commit to what most of us believed to be the coming debacle in Iraq.

As much respect as I have for the Canadian Armed Forces, I think Texas would have us outgunned, even if you only count the civilians of Texas.

I suspect the civilians of Texas have the whole US Army outgunned.

But you have to understand that I'm a East Coast Limousine Liberal, sipping chablis and nibbling on quiche or brie or something else with a French name.

OK, so Texas is out... Do you want Louisiana? They had a lot of people who were deported from Quebec (?), say 200+ years ago. And they have a lot of French place names.

Oh heck. Take Detroit. It's almost a suburb of Windsor anyhow.

It's more of a practical thing. We've established that no one, including the Canadian armed forces, could occupy Texas. After a certain amount of hemming'n'hawing, I've come to the conclusion that they may be able to occupy Detroit.

I emphasize "may." The population of Detroit is much smaller than that of Texas, but may be just as well armed, pound for pound.

Oh well, I give up. How about a straight up trade, Harper for Paul?
