Atheists to erect holiday display

WTF?

My display would be a giant teddy named Muhamed (however the hell you spell that).

Stupid.

The Tree they plan sounds rather cheesy and preachy.

It'd be cooler if they went the humanist route and decorated the tree with displays of human acheivement and non-faithbased altruism. If they had a giving tree portion of it, their message would be more powerful. As it reads, it just sounds pretentious.

A Festivus pole would be more appropriate, and funnier.

Festivus for the rest of us!

Yeah - but if that tree's fruit is knowledge, some chick is just going to come along and eat one of those books - realize she's naked, and then force her husband to eat some too. It's an old, old story...

hey! I know these people. I met Margaret and the Freethought group at a street fair in West Chester. They hateses atheists in Chester County. Some may recall a famous ten commandments courthouse plaque case which the rational people lost in court.

I know very well what a backwards place is this Chester County. Oh how well I know it. <shudders>

I give this display 2 days until it is well vandalized.

I'd be surprised if it took *that* long...

Sounds remarkably amateur in design and short-sighted in outlook, frankly. But even so, why anyone would even bother to vandalise it is beyond me. Then again, it seems propensity for loutish vandalism crosses all religious boundaries...

They should have put up a Christmas tree that was entirely indistinguishable from all the others bar a little sign that said "Atheist Christmas Tree".

I hadn't heard of this until now, but then again, i don't usually read the daily local.

i'll stop by and take a pic to post. i live in the next town over.

Agreed. It strikes me as a design thrown together at the last minute by people who expected the "no displays at all" option to win.
