3 (or more) Columbine Participants?

To start, my mother just bought me this book from Goodwill called "Everything You Know is Wrong", the book edited by Russ Kick.

So first thing is I want to know if I should even bother reading anything out of this book. Is it reliable at all?

Also, there is an article of particular interest to me titled "Witnesses to a Massacre - Other Participants in the Columbine Shooting"

Thoughts? Is this article true? Were there really more people there throwing bombs and whatnot?

Yes, you should read it. No, it isn't reliable. It's not so much that the information it presents is wrong, or that the subjects aren't worthy of further investigation, but that it often relies on heavy cherry-picking to support one side of an argument. I think the Columbine story illustrates how confusing such events can be to witnesses.

I was able to read two of the articles (including the Columbine one) before I had to put it away. It relies heavily on (in some cases second-hand) eyewitness reports, and news reports from the time of the incident (which as in in the case of 9/11 were confused and later to be found inaccurate). I'd have to get it out again to find you specifics examples, but I found the sourcing and the investigations half-ass at best.

So, I should prolly assume then that most of what I know is right then eh?

Sounds to me like every CT movie ever made to me. I think I'm going to leave the reading of this book to someone else.

Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it :)

I do encourage you to read the articles that interest you. Same with the other books edited by Kick. As long as you approach them with a skeptical mindset, you may encounter many thought-provoking things that make you say, "Really? Is this true?" As long as you're interested, and it leads you to further research, it's a good thing. Also, since there are many authors, the quality of the articles varies quite a bit. Some are pretty poor, some are decent.

I'll second that. The Fox show on the moon hoax a few years back is what really prompted me to find out just exactly what was the deal with those claims.

That was what started me on the road to actually listening to both sides of an issue and making an informed opinion based on legitimate evidence.

In stark contrast, my uncle declared after watching that same show that the moon landings were fake and that was that, end of story. That began a period of pretty much believing every conspiracy theory that came along no questions asked--including 911

Really now? I mean, am I honestly supposed to look into the claims on that show and see if we really landed on the moon? I think it's pretty well known that we did. Same goes for the Columbine Massacre, and 9/11... and well, pretty much another other HUGE event like that.

No, you don't need to debunk their claims. However, having examined a few theories I have found that I have learnt a lot about

  • The events themselves. For instance, this NASA page is fascinating. ,
  • The number of coincidences that occur in major events,
  • How honest reporters still make a lot of mistakes after major events,
  • The way people reason and form opinions.

Of course, I won't judge you if you decide you have better things to do with your time!

Think of it as training. Like learning a physical skill, thinking takes practice, and you have to start with the easy stuff and work up. When you spend time coming up with an explanation for something like the "You can't see stars in the Apollo photos", you're learning techniques that can be applied to harder (and more important) topics, like, "Is global warming real?"

I like NikZeta302 reply, funny ;) Makes Sense though.

To gtc: Seems like I just saw that site rather recently. I do recall reading about the moon landing hoax. I find it perplexing. Maybe it's because I would like it to be real, the hoax I mean. Same goes for National Treasure, the movie. I love it, I could watch it over and over and not get bored.

Things like that are just fascinating to me. Just wishful thinking though, that's all.

I also have the book. I got interested in the disinfo.com site after being given the DVD's of the Disinfo show for a wedding present. I have strange friends. If you can ever get your hands on the DVD it is worth watching. There is some wonderfully strange things that they explore on the show. It is good practice to read and watch these things with a skeptical eye. Keeps the mind sharp.

Well, welcome to the Forums SWSKEPTIC! I think you've found the right home, and don't have to fear turning to the dark side.

Yeah, a lot of us have said that there are any number of woo-woo ideas we'd just love to learn are finally proven.... ESP, Telekinesis, Nessie, Bigfoot, UFOs, etc.... But with a critical mindset, they're just what you said,.... fascinating and a bit of wishful thinking.

(The regulars here are getting tired of hearing about my flirtation with the famed "Paul is Dead" CT, but it's the perfect example. In a world of the Civil Rights Movement, VN War, Hippie Revolution, etc.... whether one guy in a quartet was really who he was supposed to be didn't really amount to a hill of beans! But we had fun with it for about 36 hours.)

And, do remember who you're talking to in this sub-forum. Many here have made second careers (at incredibly low pay) out of debunking various conspiradroids, so the advice to read and investigate is along those lines. e.g. being prepared for when the next whackjob starts with some sort of nonsense on how the RCMP actually blew up the Springhill Mine in order to cover up for the Jews setting fire to the Bytown Canal.

What exactly is the conspiracy theory regarding Columbine? I didn't realise there was one.

I am not sure of all the detail, though there was a thread here a few months ago, but one CT is that there were 3 (or possibly more) shooters instead of 2. It involved witness testimony and some crap about the number of bombs and ammunition that was found at the school.

Thanks for the kind welcome, I appreciate it!

Exactly, I just wish more people would take them less seriously ya know? You can just look around you and you realize "holy ****, how can everyone possibly be so dumb?". It's ridiculous, but hey, I do my part I guess. I run a tiny little start-up Youtube channel where I like to talk about the 9/11 CT's and other related non-sense. I'm really going to focus on the North American Union/NAFTA super highway/Amero crap for the next couple of days. You can find my channel if you just search for "culturejammer07".

If you could rate my 1 star videos back up some how that would be pretty great. A couple of these CTers rated them 1 stars and seeing as how I can't rate my own videos, it would def. be a great help. If you don't want to, and if it was wrong of me to self promote, let me know and I'll edit this whole thing out.

Have a great day everyone :)
