When life imitates art, art coming in the form of a slasher film, I weep. My own memories of a visit to Perugia, about ten years ago, is of a delightful city in the Italian regione of Umbria, complete with Etruscan ruins, the usual medieval duomo, and the joy of regional Italian cuisine, and of course, vino locale.
Our own visit to Perugia was marred slightly by what I refer to as "Needle Park, East." We discovered it as we took a walk near the duomo, and found discarded needles in profusion, any number with blood on them, in a small park behind a historic landmark. While the people dressed in retro punk regalia, and spiked hair, in the palazzo was a curious juxtaposition of the modern and the antique, the reality of modern habits didn't seem to me any improvement on Perugia's standard charms.
Too bad that didn't remain the only mar on Perugia's beauty. It appears that some folks got carried away with "rough sex" that ended in the death of British student, Meredith Kercher.
What ever happened to the worst problem for a foreign woman in Italy being getting her backside pinched by groping Lotharios?
(Yes, it happened to my wife a few times.) As to Foxy Moxy, and her associates, if the initial info turns out to be true, then I wish the lot of them all the joy of Latina prison for a long, long time.

How terribly sad, that a young life, and what should have been a positive experience of living/studying abroad, ended so horribly. My heart goes out to her parents. The case has riveted Europe, tapping into prurient curiosity as more sordid details leak out from judicial documents as well as partisan political divisions in a nation divided over immigration. A 19-page report, released by investigating judge Claudia Matteini, tells a squalid tale of dangerous sex games and a disturbing tale about Knox, the blond, blue-eyed student from Seattle who adopted the online name "Foxy Knoxy." According to Matteini, "something went wrong" after the three suspects tried to get Kercher to submit to violent group sex. The judicial officer, saying that Kercher was tortured and repeatedly sexually assaulted, speculates that Knox held Kercher down while Sollecito, Lumumba and the mystery fourth suspect assaulted her. Forensic evidence shows that Kercher's neck was lightly scratched twice with a knife before a third and fatal swipe slit her throat.
