UKIP claims 'sex census' victory

The UK Independence Party is claiming victory in its battle to stop the EU asking personal questions in censuses.

The European Parliament employment and social affairs committee voted not to tell member states to ask a question on "consensual union" in their censuses.

...

The dropped question would have asked the "date(s) of the beginning of consensual union(s) of women having ever been in a consensual union: (ii) first consensual union and (ii) current consensual union".

UKIP claim that "consensual union" means "sexual intercourse". The European Commission says it means "unmarried partnership".

The giveaway in the question is the words "current consensual union". Surely this means that the Commission's interpretation must be correct, unless UKIP is expecting women to be filling in census forms while having sex?

UKIP are wrong, which should come as no surprise to anyone that's ever heard of them. They've been in the political wilderness wilderness (not a typo!) since their objectionable Golden God left them in the lurch.

UKIP are idiots but if Turkey get into the EU, I will vote for them.

However, the census should not be asking me what white goods I own.
