Wieck Chickens Out

Well, I thought that it was a very, very elaborate joke, that Truthseeker was in on.

No planes indeed. The thermite theory is pretty mundane by comparison.
Well if it is/was a very elaborate joke on Truthseeker's (Ace Baker's) behalf, which I don't think is the case, then he has far too much free time on his hands and needs to get a life.

He's probably spent the last couple of years (or more) researching, debating, and promoting his no plane nonsense. In fact he was banned from this forum for repeatedly spamming his no plane, Chopper 5 analysis lunacy.

Which is why you will rarely, in a serious context, see me use the term clinically insane. I may state, off the cuff, that someone is "insane" but as someone who professionally uses psychology as part of his practice, I realize that to seriously label someone as insane requires a full and thorough history and physical.

TAM:)

TAM, i have said this before, but you are a very smart man. Have you read the DSMIV? Practically everything can be considered insane, depending on where you set the goalposts.

"Restless legs syndrome"? hahaha. no.

For example, you could label every Catholic on earth as psychotic if you want - because, technically, it is correct.

I´ve written about the myths of ADHD in the past. That is scary, as 15 years or so ago, we (psychologists) did not think parents would drug their kids on a whim. We were very wrong about this. It is almost worth starting a thread about it here, but, as I have pointed out in the past, everyone and his ****ing dog thinks he's a psychologist, so it would probably be a waste of time (besides, I know this subject indside out, and wouldn't learn anything new...except perhaps from you, Doctor.)

A full Hx and O/E is needed, for the following:

1. Rule out or in, a physical cause of hallucinations and/or Delusions.
2. To determine if the person is having actual Delusions or Hallucinations.
3. To more carefully determine the thought processes, in particular looking for Tangental thought or irrational behaviour.

I could go on, but you get my drift.

I do think there are some in the truth movement, PERHAPS in greater proportion than found in the General Population, that MAY suffer from various PERSONALITY DISORDERS, in particular Schizotypal and Borderline PDs.

A great topic I would love to discuss further....gotta get back for the afternoon clinic now though, so I will try and get back to this later today.

bloody hell! Ace has written about 20,000 words on this subject. Aren't people like this refered to as Straw Men? I'm so bored today that I'm going to read it all (and send Ace the bill).

People like this are only referred to as straw men by the truth movement.

The formal definition of the straw man fallacy is when a person ignores a person's actual position and substitutes a distorted, exaggerated or misrepresented version of that position. For example, if I say, "There's no evidence of complicity by the Bush administration in the 9-11 attacks", and a truther replies, "How can you defend everything the Bush administration does? You're clearly biased in their favour", then he has committed a straw man fallacy, because I have not defended any actions taken by the Bush administration.

The truther definition of the straw man fallacy is a little different. To many truthers, any view held sincerely by another member of the truth movement, not held by them, and with logical flaws that are then exposed by a debunker, is a straw man. For example, Popular Mechanics was accused of committing a straw man fallacy for debunking the "Missile pod under flight 175" myth. However, the pod theory was not invented by Popular Mechanics as a misrepresentation of truther theories, but was a major subject of the video "In Plane Sight". The accusation of a straw man fallacy was therefore itself a fallacy.

So Ace's no-plane theories are sometimes referred to as straw men by other truthers, but only fallaciously.

it is a brilliant subject, and needs a debate.

A few thinking points...

The ADHD leaflet, distrubutred to doctors in the UK about 5 years ago, was written by Eli Lilly. They recommend Strattera to tread ADHD...which is made by erm...oh yeah! Eli Lilly.

Strattera was turned down by the FDA as an anti depressant. It was resubmitted as a treatment for ADHD and approved.

On a related subject...the father of modern psychology, Wilhelm Wundt, was a complete con man who "proved" than free will does not exist. What a twat.

If you think this warrents a thread, and there are more than just us two who are qualified to discuss it, feel free to cut & paste this.

an excellent explaination - thanks Dave.

Poster "Mercutio" is a clinical psychologist. You might want to PM him or start a thread. I think this is an excellent topic, though perhaps not a CT.

Fyi, there is a poster by the name of Truthseeker which shouldn't be confused with Truthseeker1234 (Ace Baker).

thanks Arkan. It can get pretty confusing when both sides claim to be truthseekers.
Np, Truthseeker rarely posts in this section. iirc, the usual shortening of Ace's handle came to be TS1234 if that help make things easier to type.

Liszt:

Though in all likelihood our opinions will match, I like the topic, as it is medical. I will start a thread over in the medicine/science Forum.
