What modivates 9/11 CT'ers

What is with 9/11 CT'ers

There are more potential reasons than you can name:

1. The need for a cause. Probably most affected by this are the teens, although I suspect some of the aging hippies in the movement are reliving their glory days in the 1960s. Libertarian Troofers probably fit in best here. You might call it "cynical idealism".

2. Opportunity for fame; narcissism. In what other movement could young adults of limited intelligence and talent like Luke Rudkowski, Matt Lepacek, Erin Myers or Andrew Meyer expect to get on radio and TV shows? Admittedly, only a small fraction make any kind of a splash, but it's a powerful motivator for the activists.

3. Bush Derangement Syndrome. A huge factor, dwarfing the others at least in terms of the mass of numbers if not visibility. Related is the fact that the Democrats have not pushed forward with Iraq withdrawal or impeachment, despite the fervent desires of BDS-sufferers. As a result we see people like Cindy Sheehan flirting with the Troofers in desperation to see their goals achieved.

4. Profit. Only the tiniest fragment of the Troofers can expect to make any significant money, but the same can be said about athletes and actors as well.

5. Infiltration by other cults. At least some of the nominal Troofers are infiltrators from LaRouche and other nutbar cults. Small in number but from what I can see, very influential.
 
I would say a majority of the hard core are either long time Conspiracy theorists jumping on the biggest Conspiracy bandwagon to come along since the JFK assasination (I have noted out on the usenet a lot of the advocates of the Bill Clinton conspiracy theories are now Truthers) or suffering from Bush Derangement Syndrome (actually that term is derived from Clinton Derangement syndrome,since a lot of people on the right had a similiar almost pathelogical loathing for Bill Clinton.If Hillary wins,expect that syndrome to break out again bigtime) to the point where they will believe and advocate ANYTHING negative about the Bush Adminstration. (you also some on the militant left who know that the conspiracy theories are nonsense,but will use any club to beat up Dubya with).
I suspect a lot of the BDS people will move on if a Democrat is elected,but the hardcore CTers will just start a whole new set of theories to prove that Clinton and the Dems were also "in on it",(You are already seeing that beginning with quite a few truthers attacking starting to attack the Democrats).
 
Most of the twoofer luminaries were already attacking Democrats before Bush was elected. Especially so the tax resisters and white nationalists.

When they saw half of America in shock, many in some stage of PTSD, they went into a feeding frenzy.
 
I would modify the statement[in the poll] to say that "a few" are doing it for personal gain.

I think some truly believe or want to believe that their theory or scenario is true. Any countervailing evidence is ignored, discounted, or rejected as false. After all, this is supposed to involve a conspiracy.

This is not so much a discussion about the weight of evidence, as a matter of evidence being rejected because of another's faith. I suppose the argument can cut both ways, however I think (naturally) the evidence in support of the generally accepted belief (aka the Official theory) is more tangible and plentiful than the countering evidence (such as is offered).

Yeah, that sums it up. In my CT days tangible evidence didn't matter a damn, because it was ALL just part of the massive cover-up. And not spending a lot of time in the real world makes it so easy to believe that thousands of sheep would willingly or unknowingly take part in these horrible, horrible acts.

And regardless of how ridiculous and, after objective examination, obviously made up a story about the conspiracy is, you so admire the author's "bravery for speaking out" that you file it as "probably true" until it's debunked...

...and of course, the only ones capable of debunking it are OTHER CT'ers... you know, because everyone else is in it.

I am only too happy to avoid twoofers and their crap but I often see many of them going at it and occasionally come in contact with their crap, so in my experience, it's just plain stupid. Stupid and paranoid.

However, otherwise sane people succumb to it or at least entertain the notion of it because of cynicism, mistrust of and anger at the government and that feeling of insignifcance and smallness in enormous world events.

The "What can we know about it?" feeling and mystery and awe around the workings of the government also contribute to it when intelligent people fall for it.

By fruit do you mean you think that they're homosexual and (given they seem to be mostly male) are trying to use their theories as a means of getting into the undershorts of other males? They'll never get into mine!
