The HAMAS organization in Gaza has declared they are launching a Coastal Force (Navy) ------ despite the fact they have no ships yet.

Also, in the next few days, a flotilla of vessels is preparing to break through the blockade of the IDF at sea. This operation is being run by International Solidarity Movement (ISM) with the intention of confronting the Israeli Navy.

Well, it seems as if the ISM got "wet feet" and abandoned their plan in the meantime.

  • Q- Why was the date for trip been moved to the spring of 2008?

A- (Greta Berlin) : There are three main reasons.
First. We moved the date, because we simply don’t have the money to buy the boats that we need.... (etc etc etc)

Well, perhaps the naval fund could be put to use in the meantime buying food and electricity and water service for people in the area?

I'm just throwing out ideas here. I'm not suggesting that a navy for a small, land-locked country mired in poverty and violence is not a good idea in general.

Are you talking about Travis County? Oops, never mind, not so much poverty there. :D

Gaza is not landlocked, but the point still stands. And when they do get those boats it will be hard to keep them afloat with all the Israeli missiles hitting them and all.

Good point.

An Israeli missile yesterday killed two Islamic Jihad men sailing a small boat off the coast of the Gaza Strip, Palestinian sources reported.
The men who were killed while sailing a small boat were identified as Riyad Shamlah, 22, and Nizar Abu Arav, 22.
