Jews: politically conservative?

Whoa, I didn't say Jews are politically conservative! I said the exact opposite. CT nuts who think Ari Fleischer destroyed the Twin Towers did.

And I've heard the inexplicable opinion that Jews mainly vote Republican twice lately and I simply want to get to the bottom of this nonsense.

It is probably nonsense.

The great mystery of American presidential politics is that the vastest support for the Republican Party does not come from the well-heeled but from the Great Plains states where the mean income is below the national average. It isn't "Jews" or any other distinct ethnic group that generally prefers Republicans to Democrats. It is the people that "should" vote Democrat that do.

I think it's because Republicans--for better or for worse--tend not to abandon their principles while the Democrats have been all over the map. They often pretend to be "conservative" when they should present a clear alternative.

Again, it's just me, but I think a parliamentary system would offer the opportunity for more political diversity in the USA. The American alternative tends to create superficial opposition in a desperate attempt to capture the largest proportion of the votes from people who mainly think that everything's all right.
 
My parents are the typical intellectual liberal NY Jew in the mold of Woody Allen. It stems from their hatred of the McCarthy era blacklisting, and the WASP-as-billionaire-exploiters like the Rockefellers, and the Rosenberg trial.

It does seem to me that talking about the political views of an ethnic group like this is playing in to the hands of people like Magz.*

The problem is that jew is a word for many different things. Ethic, religious and cultural.

I don't see why this is any more or less apropraite than discussing the political views of mormons, evangelicals, african americans or any other group.

I do wonder if the person who thought that jews tend to be conservative is a native New Yorker or not.
