Calif. Clergyman Condemns Those Who Criticize His Endorsement Of Former Gov. Mike Huckabee

(AP) A California minister who used church stationery and an Internet radio program to endorse former Gov. Mike Huckabee for president is asking his followers to pray for the deaths of those who filed a complaint against him with the IRS.

The Rev. Wiley S. Drake of the First Southern Baptist Church of Buena Park, Calif., called for "imprecatory prayer" targeting Barry W. Lynn, Joe Conn and Jeremy Leaming of Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

Why, that's mighty Christian of him, I must say!

However, the good reverend didn't call for punishment, his god did:

"The prayer does call for serious, serious punishment on people. But I didn't call for that, God did," said Drake, a native of Magnolia who completed a term in June as second vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Maybe he should convert to Islam so he can issue a fatwa instead?

I didn't do it. God did.

This has been another episode of God: My Evil Twin, Skippy.

"Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow."

"Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg."

Barry should be OK - they're just going after his children and wife.

Given a belief in a god who lays down certain rules, these prayers are perfectly reasonable. His rules have been broken, the sinners need to be punished.

I have to laugh at the idea of God as "Not Me" from The Family Circus.

Thanks a lot, Polaris. Now that image is stuck in my head for the rest of the day!

"Who caused these plagues that the Egyptians have been suffering from?"

"Not Me!"

Did someone say "Family Circus"?

God is dead! God remains dead! And we have killed him.

Well the Rev. Wiley S. Drake is obviously in touch with him so I'd force his contact details from him and then it's just a matter of serving the papers isn't it?

Read more about this incident on the Americans United web site:
In a section of his press release called “How To Pray,” Drake includes a long list of biblical citations that call on God to smite enemies. For example, the alleged enemies of God “shall be judged,” “condemned,” and “his days be few….” Additionally, supporters should pray that the enemy’s “children be fatherless, and his wife a widow,” and “his children be continually vagabonds, and beg; let them seek bread also out of their desolate places.”
Drake is correct in saying that there is considerable scriptural support for hateful prayers. The following is from Psalms chapter 109:
Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand.

When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin.

Let his days be few; and let another take his office.

Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.

Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.

Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labour.

Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favour his fatherless children.

Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.

Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.
There are many who deem the above words to be "inspired."

So when Christians say that's they'll 'pray for me', this is what they're actually praying for? Now it all makes sense.

Well, I've always said that the phrase "I'll pray for you" is simply the Christian's bowdlerized way of say "**** you, blasphemer!"
