The whackjobs over at "The Secret" forum are discussing the Million Dollar Challange.

You will be surrounded by non-believers and doubtful people. They 'know' with absolute certainty that paranormal activity and psychic powers do not exist. Therefore, the universe grants their wish, and no one has been able to perform it in front of them, even those who have performed these feats all their lives.
Doubt, mistrust, negativity... They create their own test results before it even happens. LOA in action."
To which one of the them replied:
Excellent point ^^ and quite insightful really, i've often wondered about such things and answers are coming to me now, thank you
:boggled:It's like one huge newage circle jerk over there.

This quote just sums it up (by Rie-rie):

"I don't think so, that anybody can prove LOA.
Although my whole life proves LOA... - I know it for myself - but it is impossible to prove it under controlled conditions."

:lolsign:

Just wonderful!

Humph, I tried to join the forums to straighten them out, but I get a weird error. (Good to see the LOA in action!).

Looks like the same old excuses. Bonus points for asking if a tree falling alone in a forest makes a sound, and also for mentioning What The Bleep.

The convoluted thinking among the devotees is mind boggling.
Show them all the proof they want, and skeptics will always believe the same. Because the hardest part of being a skeptic is that in order to NOT be one it means giving up your pride and admit that you might be wrong. Some people can't do that.

Great link!! I am going back to read more. Its brightened my morning,I needed a laugh.Just one thing Fishbait are you the one who asked about the tree making a sound?

Sounds like a rewrite of the old "your negative vibes caused my psychic powers to fail" routine. Bit rich of them to accuse sceptics of being unable to admit they are wrong. Obviously that forum is an irony free zone.

Those people are some of the most far gone nuts I've ever seen. It has all the makings of a new and dangerous cult.

I know someone there has devoted her life to winning the lottery. She begs the Universe for money, writes herself fake checks, and lives her life as if she has ALREADY won.

Then, she wins $1 and says it's working.

Any day now, fruitloop!

No, it was some deep thinker from their forum.

If my understanding is correct, The Law of Attraction states that if a tree falls in the forest and you are too far away to hear it, if you put your ear to the ground, you will get your ear dirty. The Universe will provide!

Thus endeth the lesson.

Another interesting thread on the Secret forum - with somebody asking the question about poverty and illness, and whether people attract it.

http://thesecret.powerfulintentions.com/forum/thesecret/message-view/20572408

Here's a quote (bottom of 1st page) that I found particularly awful:

"And on another thought about the bad things that happen to children... is it POSSIBLE that the adults around that child helped to manifest these "bad" things for the child? "What if baby John is deformed?" "what if baby Jane falls and gets horribly hurt?" "What if my child gets molested or raped?" I'm not sure if this can happen, but I know those thoughts exist in every parent's mind".

So, as a parent, if you worry about your child, and worry that they may one day have an accident, be raped or murdered, or even suffer an illness - if they do, it's YOUR fault for thinking it?

I FEEL SICK.

Just to be the advocate of the devil.

At least the argument "Those skeptics want you to fail so badly, that it does" is internally consistent with their delusion.

Unlike "My Spirit Guide starts talking nonsense because you doubt my powers".

It seems an unwritten new age rule that skeptic powers are more powerful than believer powers.

In a battle of the wishes, I for one am glad that the universe always comes down on the side of the skeptic.

It seems like "The Secret" can be quite scary for anyone who believes in it.

It might be fun to mess with them, join the forum and tell them you're dedicating every day to asking the Universe to make sure none of their wishes ever come true.

If one man is doing that, does it render "The Secret" useless?

lol! You try it, we'll watch.

The most frustrating thing I find about 'The Secret' is the the basic premise is sound. Not the 'law' of attraction stuff, - but the basic planning and focussing stuff- the sort of thing that you would do for any goal setting. - i.e. decide what you want, focus on it, and you may well receive it. Of course, by 'focussing on it', I don't mean sit on your backside and dreaming, wishing and hoping, I mean making a plan of how you are going to get what you want, step by step, making sure it's realistic, keep checking your plan to make sure you are on track, recalibrate your plan if and when necessary...until you get that BMW or house in the country that you desire.

But then that's not really a secret, just good forward thinking, and I'm sure I couldn't sell millions of book based on that simple 'secret'!

Going back to the 'Law of Attraction' - just 2 seconds of thought will make you realise that this cannot possibly be a law - there are thousands of women out there dreaming of dating/bedding/marrying George Clooney - they can't all have him!

Wow. That "Law of Attraction" is a pretty weak power, then, isn't it?

I mean, you could spend years wishing for tons of money, only to have it all come crashing down, simply because someone in your vicinity had a negative thought about it!

I would rather gain my "tons of money" in a slightly more reliable manner: Work for it, and take the time to make smart investments.
We'll see who comes out richer, in the end.

I think that's where you deviate from the whole basic premise, though.

I think the basic premise IS "sit on your backside, wait and hope".

The biggest problem here is, if "The Secret" is true, the more people who believe in it, the weaker it becomes, because then you have competition in everything you do. Want to win the lottery? Great, but now you're going to have to share the prize with the million other "Secret" advocates who also asked the Universe to win.

Want a job promotion? Great, but so do all your colleagues who are also asking the Universe for success.

Uh-oh!

Yeah, but that would mean using logic, reason and common sense. Why the heck would one want to do that? ;)

"The Secreters" should not use so-called conventional medical treatment (Broken legs, liver failure, etc.). Let them heal themselves and let evolution take its course. I'm obviously kidding, but you get the point.

yes, you are probably right, the basic premise is about being lazy!
You should join The Secret forum though, and ask them about what you have just said above. it would be interesting to read their answers.

Just read a couple of threads on there, and they are so new-agey and 'out-there' it's untrue. And one woman......keeps writing everything......like this.......and it's driving me......mad.....!

Work for it? WORK FOR IT? How, like...'yesterday's thinking', is that!

These days, we have a universal human consciousness, there is no need to work for anything anymore, just 'attract' it into your life.

My kids WILL be pleased when I let them into 'The Secret'. Save them going to Uni, they can just attract the qualification into their lives....save them a lot of time and money! (and work!). (And of course if they don't get their degrees, it must be that University Professors are better at attracting, and have attracted it back.)

Get with the beat, Wowbagger!
