I'm not at all certain how Nifong's politics figures into this.
My favorite boogeymen are liberals but as much as I despise Nigong I'm not sure I can't find a reason to despise his of his politics nor can I see a reason to link his politics to his offense.

A misnomer, the group of 88 were a group of Duke professors (presumely liberal) who took out an ad considered inlfamatory to the defendants.Indeed!
