I'm quite an admirer of Kal Korff's books debunking the Billy Meier and Roswell cases. From time to time I'll check out his website. Which I did tonight...

Well... according to his website, apparently his brother was shot by a police officer in Oregon. A terrible tragedy, but Kal Korff says some very strange things in his postings. He claims he (himself) is a Colonel in the Israeli Secret Services (just being promoted from Captain). He claims that the Israeli Secret Services is going to expose corruption in by the police that will prove his brother is innoccent. They have a $5 million budget to do so. He also says that the judge in the case has ruled a mistrial.

I can find articles about the brother being shot (if it's indeed his brother) online, but nothing about a mistrial.

The postings seem bizarre. Check them out at kalkorff dot com.

The Czech media disclossed Korff's work in the counter intelligence area in July 2006. Apparently he has a upcomming book, "Secret Wars: Defending Against Terrorist Plots"

Weirdness.

Where are you reading this? According to Amazon, the book was published in 2004. Did you glean it off the site, or do you have a separate reference?

Is kalkorff.com actually his website, or is he being spoofed? (Or, did someone else take over the domain?) What's up with the "Transporting to an alternate universe..." message when you load the page? The existing entries are quite bizarre.

If you look at who's linking to the site, it's mostly limited to a small group of the same characters who appear none too fond of Korff (either over the Billy Meier or bigfoot debunkings).

roswell.org redirects to the site; someone has additionally secured http://www.andtheylie.com and linked to it, and contains similar content to this page slamming Korff; if you navigate through the Google links page I posted above you'll find a lot of the same pictures and material repeated.

There's a message board still accessible on the site, and looking at the usernames and activity of the first four registered posters, it looks at first glance like someone's been busy spoofing and/or weaving a peculiar web of nonsense (more here, scroll down to the March 27th entry).

I'm not sure what to make of it all... it just looks really odd. Did he really tick somebody off?

Wolverine - I did the search at work; I saw similar reference on several sites but to be honest, I was not paying 100% attention (as I should have). That said, I'm sure I ran across the kalkorff.com web site.

Here is a link to the shooting story, though it does not state there is any relation to Kal: http://www.oregon.gov/OSP/NEWSRL/news/02_28_2006_update_jcso_shooting.shtml

Outside the few "odd" sites, I can not find any reliable reference to Korff being a Col in the Israeli Secret Services....or tying him to the shooting story.

Given the above, at this point I retract my previous post.

No worries, I was just curious because because what I'd seen along those lines looked pretty questionable (and I was wondering if you'd found something I'd missed).

I also noticed a link to the site here on a Wiki entry for Pseudologia fantastica (and here's the edit that added it). This is all striking me as some sort of odd smear campaign.

Wolverine - Nope; in fact I've done some more looking around.....

I can not find any such "IOL News Syndicate", or "Global Syndication News".

Reporter "Jitka Subrtova" is referenced on some Czech website that appears to sell/resell Internet services.

Reporter "Martina Tycova" likewise appears on Czech sites (all tied to Kal Korff discussion) claiming she is a "supermodel & media personality", yet can not find any direct references for her - odd for a "supermodel"?

Looking at the Internet Archive "Wayback Machine" (http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.kalkorff.com); missing from the current www.kalkorff.com sites is his standard "Copyright" notice. Additionally, most of the links to not work or are not otherwise open to the public (such as "About us").

Domains by Proxy, current "owner" of the www.kalkorff.com site, also owns CriticalThinkers.org.

Missing in the media are reports about the Oregon DA Steven Campbell being investigated, or the Royce Myers III lawsuit.

All in all...I'd have to say very strange stuff.

Domains By Poxy is GoDoddy's anonymous domain registration service. They don't "own" the domain. I use it for my website so my address and phone number will not be available to the public when people look up my info on Whois.

To you have his original Whois info?

Yes...I know; I was just to lazy to write all that out and used "owner" in quotes, as a shortcut of sorts.

I did find a email address for him not associated with the kalkorff.com domain, though its about 5 years old; we'll see if he answers back.

I don't have his original WHOIS.

I read some of his books in the past and was a bit shocked when I saw his website just now. It looks as though we are being redirected to a mirror site. I smell a smear campaign as well. People do go to ridiculous lengths on the internet so it's not too far fetched.

Kent Jeffrey?

Could this be his site spoofing Kal? I found this here:

Critical Thinkers.org
Kent Jeffrey’s originally hosted roswell.org, a website hosting his views that he believed in a crash at Roswell, and a major element of his endeavours was the Roswell Declaration and petition. However, in 1997, Jeffrey recanted and declared the Roswell Incident a myth. In 2007 he relaunched the site as CriticalThinkers.org, looking to expose myths and hoaxes.

Korff *Is Not* a "UFO Debunker"!

Hi, folks.

My first post here, let me be brief. I'm the author of "UFO Sightings" (Prometheus), I've been a CSICOP fellow for (gosh) 30 years now.

As you know, wrong assumptions often lead to wrong conclusions. One big, wrong assumption has been made here: Kal Korff *is not* a "UFO debunker", and never has been. While he is skeptical of some cases (especially the Billy Meier "Contact from the Pleiades"), he is on the pro-paranormal side. (And hence, we should not be surprised to see him writing weird stuff.)

I've met Korff, several times. Talked with him, exchanged letters, etc. He began in UFOlogy as the sidekick of Stanton Friedman, the "Flying Saucer Physicist." Last time I saw him was 1995, I was in Seattle to be on a TV show about the "Alien Autopsy" hoax, and Korff turned up in the audience. He was properly skeptical of the alien-slice-and-dice film. He told me he was going to be moving to Seattle (had been in the Bay Area) and do radio. He told me about his "Critical Thinkers" group, that would investigate claims objectively. Why, just recently they had found archaeological evidence of Egyptian legions drowned in the Red Sea, exactly as it says in Exodus!

Then somehow Korff ended up in Prague, and was married to a Czech woman, as I understand it. He's been there ever since. This "Colonel" business is probably mostly in his fertile imagination. "Colonel Korff" is probably about as official as "Colonel Sanders."

Now, I did not read the website in question very carefully, but I saw nothing that makes me think it's a hoax. Korff has had a long-standing feud with Kevin Randle, which is represented here. I don't have Korff's address now, but you can probably contact him through the website.

Robert Sheaffer

Hi Robert, thanks for taking the time to drop by and share. I was unaware of the history you mentioned (egad, even). That paints things in a bit of a different light.

I follow the Bigfoot thing more than the UFO thing, so I am more familiar with Korff as an associate of Greg Long than as a UFO researcher.

Fortean Times magazine reported some time back that Korff and Long had staged a recreation of the Patterson film with Bob Heironimus wearing a Phil Morris suit. According to Long and Korff, the recreation was a success. For a time, Long was taking orders for a DVD of the event along with his book. Then suddenly, the DVD offer was withdrawn. Scuttlebutt in the Bigfoot world suggested Long and Korff had a falling out.

I read Korff's book about Billy Meier's UFO claims some time back; it's so obvious that Meier is a fraud that to write a whole book on the subject seems to me sort of like shooting fish in a barrel. But since many in the UFO world seem to accept Billy Meier as the real deal, it goes to show how off-the-deep-end the UFO field has become.

Yes, I've seen Korff's website as well, and have been puzzled by it...

Welcome Robert Sheaffer!

Thanks for the clarification. Like many, I knew him only by his skeptical books and jumped to the conclusion he was a skeptic.

Let me add my new member welcome, too:

Welcome Robert Sheaffer!

Thanks for the welcomes! I haven't been following the Forums very well here. I probably should put in a little more time. I recall that several years ago, Randi asked me to write some UFO articles for JREF. I was pretty busy then, so I didn't write anything. I have more free time now, so I'd like to stay on top of things. If there's an interesting UFO thread and I don't jump in, somebody please email me about it, I'll contribute what I can.

My next "Psychic Vibrations" column in S.I. will be about Biblical Geocentrism, should be out soon.
