Local news said the Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni was about 10m (33ft) long, and was the first adult colossal squid landed intact.

10m long squid. That's a lot of bait. It is also something I'd not want to encounter by accident whilst taking a swim off the shores of Antarctica. :boggled:

If you are interested in giant squids, here is your story of a colassal squid. It may be time to dig up your copy of James Mason and Kirk Douglas in "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" and have a laugh.

Is that 10m to the nearest metre or cm?

Is it a squid or a squib?

Griff...Great thread! Keep it up!:crowded:

It still ain't Architeuthis. That one has suckers the size of your thumb. They've found sucker marks the size of DINNER PLATES on the heads of Physeter Macrocephalis, the sperm whale, who apparently are Architeuthis' main predator.

ETA: Hmmm. Did a little searching. Looks like it's the eyes that are the size of dinner plates. A proper skeptic never shrinks from the truth. My bad.

Don't matter - that's still SOME squib! squid!
