Final Cut Press Release

Dylan, I know you come here to read the forum, so tell us when the film is going to be released...

My e-mail is open for your reply, but you're probably ignoring me, just like all your critics...

Isn't it getting a little late in the day to book screens for a Sept. 7 release? I don't pretend to be an expert on such things, but it would seem to me that you'd need a good deal of lead time, what with all the summer blockbusters and so on... there are only so many screens in the world, after all.

With all the delays studios have, there's always some spot opening up. Also not mentioned (that I've seen) is that Mark Cuban owns some cinemas out there, somewhere. He could make sure it gets at least some venues.

I worked in distribution at Warner Brothers many years ago. LC could also make what they call a "four wall" deal. If the theater has no faith in the film, the distributor will rent the place, giving them a guarantee of whatever their "good revenue" nights would be. Say 150 seats - $1500 per screening times 3 screenings on Fri/Sat, 4 screenings on Sun. They could get an "art house" for a weekend "opening" at about 15 to 20 thousand. (The theater keeps the concession revenues, so they make out, anyway.)

So, if the thing is finished, they can get it in a theater somewhere.

Does anyone else find it somewhat inappropriate for LTW to compare their trials in making their stupid films with the Second Battle of El Alamein?

That depends on which side they think their little analogy applies to. Comparisons to Monty are ridiculous, of course, but maybe they see themselves as the Germans. That'd be an apt comparison.

Cut off from their supply lines (read: reefer stash), battled to a standstill by an opponent they totally underestimated, and ultimately losing that one battle that ended their rapid progress over the previous years, and was the beginning of the roll-up of their hitherto expanding empire. Yep! Sounds about right.

I'm shocked they've heard of it.

Well, it is a popular map in the computer game Battlefield 1942...

Seriously though, I doubt they have, but I was referencing their use of the lines "This is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."

When saying those lines, Churchill was referring to the Second Battle of El Alamein.

Thankfully though I am sure many theaters will say

PASS!!!!

To Do over boy.

There was some talk over at LCF about entering LC:FC in the Toronto Film Festival. Major film festivals won't accept films that have already been shown on the Internet. Is FC considered a "brand new film" or just a re-make?

I wouldn't even compare them (favourably) to the Germans... at least Rommel was a strong leader.

You know, I had some belief that someone who got rejected from film school would know a thing or two about how the film industry works beforehand, but Dylan has blown all my beliefs out the door.

June 8th - International Features Deadline.

They have less than 1 month to get it in for consideration.

TAM:)

I don't think they'll accept it even if they think it's good enough:

Note: The Festival expects all films it presents to be at minimum North American premieres unless special arrangements have been made with the Festival Organizing Committee.

The Festival will be running 6-15 September 2007, they're aren't going to show a film that's going on general release during that period.

Also, if you're planning a release in September, wouldn't you want to get into a Film Festival at least a month before? That way you double your publicity...

Chances are LC:FC will fail on criteria (ii) as well. They won't be able to resist putting it on YouTube.

I'm not so sure. they have already told their slave--I mean their pool boy-- I mean their fan-- I mean their follow-- I mean their fellow truthers, that they will have to see it via "Pay-per-view" If they cannot attend a screening at a major city...doubt you'll be able to get a copy on youtube, at least one that THEY put up there.

Perhaps, but I believe that Dylan measures success by YouTube hits. If he were forced to choose between having his film shown at Toronto or releasing it on YouTube, I think we both know which way that would go.

The wild card in this is Cuban. If he really is going to distribute the movie through his company, he will have it pulled off YouTube and Google Video forthwith. Cuban is a businessman; he's not going to give away a product he's invested however much money in. Dylan will either protest this or, more likely, show his true colors and retreat to his trailer, counting his money.
