May 11.. So Cal dinner 'n stuff?

I'm happy to meet wherever makes sense for the most people. I just have to end up in Ontario. I don't mind driving there after the festivities are over.
 
I might be able to talk Mrs. L into it, as it's only a 3 or so hour drive from where we are. If nothing else, we can get a hotel room. Unfortunately, we've nowhere to put the BorgMonkey.

Given that my knowledge of LA is restricted to episodes of CHiPs, could someone suggest a meeting place for dinner?

I'd like to do something touristy in the morning/afternoon, and then head to dinner..somewhere. What's easy to get to for everyone?

May 11th is a Friday and I'm all done by noon. I am, however in West L.A. at that time and I think only El_Spectre is by me. Any place I know is either in Westwood Village around the campus or over in Silver Lake/Echo Park.

Although I do know of a good Thai place on Hollywood Blvd right across from the Scientology Center...
 
Might I suggest one of my favorite LA haunts, El Coyote. It's a Mexican restaurant, it offers fare for our vegan friends (I'm pretty sure they do, anyway), the food is good, the prices are reasonable, and you can start your car with their margaritas. They have cheap valet parking (like 3 bucks or something) and it's full of Old Hollywood history. For example, Sharon Tate ate her last meal there before being murdered by the Manson family. Isn't that charming?

Seriously, El Coyote is a great, fun, awesome place and if you call ahead they'll set up a large table for you.

I have to disagree with the margarita comment. I've only been to El Coyote once (although it was this past Tuesday), and the margaritas were sorely lacking in the alcohol department. The food, however, was very good and the atmosphere quite appealing. Excellent (and smooth) quacamole, as well.

I've been to El Coyote dozens of times, and all I can say is that my experience differs greatly. I've always found their margaritas to be extremely strong. Maybe the bartender was having an off night.

In any event, I agree with you on the guacamole. Yum. :)
 
Well, looks like Why and I can't make it. Why has a fundraiser thingamajig for his school band. Next time. :(

Hmmm, interesting. I'll have to try them again next time I'm on the West Coast (which, sadly, won't be on May 11). Incidentally, I've been told the margaritas at El Conquistador are out of this world, but didn't get a chance to find out, unfortunately.
