Congratulations on completely ignoring the issues of accidental shootings, and guns used in crimes of passion. Thank you for focusing exclusively on handguns as a means of solving this specific and extremely rare problem.
 
If we're not going to talk about gun control laws in this thread because to do so would be shameful what shall we post in this thread?

Apparently, he was carrying 2 9mm handguns which, according to MSNBC, require only a driver's license to acquire in Virginia.

What is odd is that the first shooting or couple of shootings occurred two hours before the worst of the rampage.

What the heck was going on during those two hours?

Good question. It's about a 15-20 minute walk from East/West AJ to Norris Hall if you're going straight there.

Death toll is now at 29.

If I may make an unemotional remark, that's actually pretty impressive for a man with 2 9mm pistols.

It's sad to see that the USA once again has to experience a tragedy like this.

I dunno. But I can't explain this either. From the Fox story...

...during the press conference Monday, police said they believe there was only one shooter.

Police also said there is no evidence the two shootings at opposite ends of campus were related.

I don't see how an event devoid of logic and reason would support either side of a debate on gun control, if the debate were to be based on logic and reason.

I do see how such an emotion-driven and emotion-affecting event might support either side of a debate on gun control if the debate were to be based on emotion. But what good does a debate based on emotion do?

I'm here to express my sadness and sympathy for the victims and for their community.

You can worship the right god ;) but nothing can prepare you for a bullet. Some idiot can take everything you have and everything you are going to have by pulling his finger.

Accidental shootings and crimes of passion are not the issue here. BPSCG is simply pointing out the irony of the situation. The Virginia Tech spokesman is quoted as saying their campus is safer without concealed weapons. Turns out, even without concealed weapons, they aren't so safe.

Perhaps you know each other well enough to understand what the other is implying, but to the casual observer such responses sure appear to be knee-jerk reactions.

What social ill was solved, or even ameliorated, by banning guns on campus?

I was pointing up the fatuousness of claiming that we can make people safer by banning guns. In Washington, DC, it is illegal for anyone to have a gun, even in his own home, if he's not a law enforcement official. And yet Washington was, until recently, known as the "murder capital" of the US (I think New Orleans has the honor now).

Legislating against guns doesn't keep people from getting them and using them. All it does is make politicians feel good about having "done something," and get them the votes of fools who buy the snake oil they're selling on election day.
 
I'll be curious to learn more about the shooter, it's generally a certain type that commits this kind of pointless act.

MSNBC is saying that the figures that they're getting are "going up and down all the time", so they're sticking with 22 dead (including the shooter) for now.

Probably better to start a new thread on gun control instead of filling this one with endless argument. Out of respect for those who have died I would say.
 
Usually its the commies that bring up gun control right after one of these shootings, way to preempt them BPSCG.

However, I doubt such legislation would have made much of a difference since the percentage of people who pack when legally allowed is very low. The thing is, there isn't much to discuss when a shooting happens. We have body counts and names. There isn't much point to have a thread about it unless people want to bring up gun policy, mental health policy, or whatever they think played a part.

So stop acting all holier than thou.
