Death Threats Force Increased Sharpton Security

CBS) NEW YORK WCBSTV.com learned early Saturday that the National Action Network has increased the Rev. Al Sharpton's security due to a number of death threats in the wake of the firing of radio host Don Imus by MSNBC and CBS Radio.

Beefed up security will also be in place at the National Action Network's headquarters in Harlem.

“We have no way of knowing the seriousness of these threats, but they have intensified greatly in the last two days as Rev. Sharpton was figured prominently in the firing of Don Imus," Attorney Charlie King said in an statement early Saturday morning.

Mob mentality. Some day we will learn to act rather than react. Until then we will have to put up with such visceral stupidity and conveniently call it the market.

Don't be so judgemental. I spent a lot of time on my death threat. It's very well written.

Sort of makes the lawful boycott of a product seem rather innocent, doesn't it? I understand that the Rutger's basketball team is also receiving hate mail.

I'm sure many of us can reminisce on when we received our first death threat.

I'm a NYCer. Sharpton getting death threats is nothing new.

No. Not hardly. It was the emotional and mob mentality that has created the irrational atmosphere. Like the Duke case, folks like Sharpton have inflamed passions and this is the result.

I understand that the Rutger's basketball team is also receiving hate mail.
Everyone is. Imus and many of not most of those vocal on either side of this are receiving hate mail and death threats.

Don't think for one moment that the lunatics are only on one side.

Looks like it's only a couple of emails.

Still inexcusable, but can't say it's surprising. Hell, if someone made a public statement that he loved his mother, he'd probably get some hate mail. All kinds of wackos out there.

Proactive stupidity isn't much better, but yes, this has probably gotten out of hand.

What I resent is the modern decline in quality of death threats. These days, it's all mispelled "Im goin KILL YU!!!!!" and such. What happened to pride in one's work, and literary craftmanship? In my day, we spent a lot of time and effort penning masterly death threats. No cut-up letters from magazines, no scurrilous language, no potty humor. It was poetry, finely tuned to present the threat in an atmosphere of elegant serenity.

Al Sharpton, I fear/
your demise swiftly draws close/
as a bullet's kiss.

You write it up in calligraphy on expensive linen stock paper, and enclose a dried flower. You want the death threat not to be just a death threat, but a whole proposed end-of-life experience.

:D I like it but I'm not sure how it will play to the PC crowd.

Didn't the threat involve a number of white dudes raping him in an alley?

Charlie (still waiting for apology to the rugby players) Monoxide

Look even the wife of Imus (what's her name?) got on the radio and begged people to stop sending hate mail to the team. She said "If you are going to send hate mail, send it to my husband, not those girls."

I wonder about that too. The Washington Wizards basketball team were previously known as the Washington Bullets. But the PC crowd forced them to change their name. So maybe the poem should read:
Al Sharpton, I fear/
your demise swiftly draws close/
as a bullet's wizard's kiss.

I've noticed that a lot of white Americans really really hate Al Sharpton.
Considering all of the BS he's spouted over the years and his refusal to accept responsibility for libeling a former prosecutor and his race baiting and bigotry it's understandable.

I don't hate Sharpton, I'm disappointed that the media would suggest that he is anyone's leader and would give a jerk like him power and prestige that he does not deserve.

Now I have mental pictures of Al Sharpton making out with Gandalf. Or Professor Dumbledore. That would be an interesting couple. "Professor Dumbledore, I cannot help but notice that when you appointed the sixth year prefects, you chose only white students. Why is that?"
