Fight? This was actually a sorta "fun" theory. The purpose of the coil was to transmit longitudinal electrical waves through the air. This was a huge improvement to our current electrical transmission system. (which he also invented.)

so whats the conspiracy? that utility companies refuse to use an unmetered distribution method or electricity?

as long as it costs the utility companies money to make electricty its going to cost you money to use it, its not a conpsiracy, its business

I had heard that scientists disputed the whole concept of longitudinal electromagtetic waves. Why has this research been almost completely abandoned?

ive never anyone dispute the concept, from what i understand its simply transmitting electricity through high powered radio waves, ive even got instructions on how to build an antenna to pull electricity from the radio and tv waves we use not, its not much, but its there, deosnt seem liek theres much research to be done

the problem lies in the fact that generating such high powered waves will cost some high powered money, so of course any company doing this will want to bill its customers, but AFAIK theres no way to see who is using your power, and how much they are using, also, because of the way this would work much of the energy broadcast will go to waste, beaming uselessly out into space, or into the ground, so its not a very effecient method

so essentially, until there is a way to generate enormous amounts of electricity for little or no money, this means of distributing the energy will be useless

But isn't it hard to believe that after all his other groundbreaking inventions, that this one would be so useless? I thought it used more energy but at the same time didn't waste much at all compared to his current method: Polyphase Alternating Current.

Why is that surprising? Do you expect 100% success from anyone else?

One of the deep dark secrets in the patent world is, about 90% of patents never really ammount to much of anything. It's the 10% that do that makes the effort worthwhile.



ETA: also, "useless" is a bit harsh. Rather say, "less useful than alternatives that found better market acceptance".

well as i said its all about metering, the utility company cant bill you for what you use, sure at the consumer level its "free energy" but the utility companies will pay out the a$$ for it, then go bankrupt, then no one has any energy, free or otherwise :)

i hoestly cant think of any practical applications for it that dont result in losses for utility companies, maybe transmitting power to the ISS, but at that point solar power works just as well

Tesla coils were an amazingly inefficient way to transmit electricity. Tons of energy is wasted spreading to areas that don;t need it, and the waste for items that are not light bulbs would be horrendous. I can hold up a flourescant light around a tesla coil and it will light it up nicely (if wastefully). Now if were to bring my computer into the same range I would probably have a fried bunch of components.

This also ignores all the other hazards of a tesla coil driven system: Imagine trying to use something flammable when sparks are coming off of everything made of metal!

Well, as you suggest, it's useful for applications where you don't care too much about economic losses, but you do need power at a location that is difficult to wire.

I had a ...... friend ..... who claimed to have run a nice little business "wiring" grow ops in BC with Tesla coils. They were popular because it made it harder to find the op site, you see :) Allegedly, of course. This was the guy who also wanted to build a rocket in his backyard. Crazy Chainsaw would like him.

G4whatever, why don't you list the CT's you don't support and make it easier for us. We can divide into teams and thrash you by topic or do you just need a generic whupping?

There is an issue with new technology not being taken up. Whether it's due to Big Oil or not is another matter. Having been involved with this in a peripheral way for many years, (http://www.azcars.eu/wdfdi/index.htm) I'd blame apathy and inertia.

Incidentally, the PM machines and the cars that run on water may get the media attention, but it's more subtle improvements that matter.
